Publisher's summary

Pay attention to the people you meet by chance.

Often they are messengers sent to help you along your way.

John Parker never had to look far for an advocate and mentor to help him overcome his greatest challenges, from his father's abuse to the tragic loss of his son. His great-aunt Gladys, or "Glad," was always there, telling him he was destined for extraordinary things and inspiring him to become the person he was meant to be.

In Be the Dawn in the Darkness, John invites you on his journey from heartbreak to happiness, fear to resolution in this inspirational account of a boy and his harbinger. A compelling testament of transformation, John's story demonstrates how to turn struggles into hope, no matter what you’ve been through. Shocking, relatable, tragic, and captivating, Be the Dawn in the Darkness is one man's story and everyone's incentive for growth, redemption, and lifelong fulfillment.

Breaking the chains and overcoming trauma/Liberating and Inspiring

“Like the warrior Odysseus, King of Ithaca, you are on your journey home from the battle of Troy. In this regard, you are not unique. Warriors have been training for wars, fighting wars, and coming home since the beginning of time, and their friends and families have awaited their eventual return. Within a couple of weeks after getting home, you’re going to have a big realization, and here it is: the world is exactly the same, but you’ve changed. You’ve changed because of your experiences, but the world is exactly the same as before you left home” (Page 224-225 Be The Dawn In the Darkness) This is a Powerful Transformative book about Redemption, Growth, finding peace amongst Chaos and overcoming Childhood and Adult Traumas. Being a Marine and 3x Combat Veteran, and wounded in combat I found myself struggling to integrate into Civilian Life and finding purpose after returning home. I instantly related to the Author and admire his relentless determination to live a fulfilling life with Love and happiness.

Insightful lessons of a Marine and healer

A journey into the life and wisdom of a wounded healer. Be the Dawn in the Darkness offers a distinct tale with insight of the many lessons learned at each trajectory point. As I turned 40 years old, John Henry Parker’s words encourage me as I too have been that kid, scared and hopeless. A father changing the direction of my past. JHP writes about his experiences with raw honesty, yet it gives us wisdom from his Aunt Gladys to the Warrant Officer offering much needed words to a young man eager to listen. This book is much more then a man telling his story of survival and grief, it is adjacent to a road map of self discovery and reflection. Highly recommend this great book.

An amazing reflection on life, trauma and overcoming

Such a powerful and moving story. Baked-in lessons, examples and wisdom throughout each chapter. Helped me see parts of myself in his story. Thank you JH for sharing your message.
