Publisher's summary

This revised edition includes a new epilogue, "Coming up on Twenty-Five Years" since the entry of the Evangelical Orthodox into the Holy Orthodox Church. This is the story of a handful of courageous men and their congregations who risked stable occupations, security and the approval of life-long friends to be obedient to God's call. It is also the story of every believer who is searching for the Church. Where Christ is Lord. Where holiness, human responsibility, and the sovereignty of God are preached. Where fellowship is more than a covered-dish supper in the church basement. And where fads and fashions take a backseat to apostolic worship and doctrine. This is a book, for Orthodox Christians, looking for ways to bring new life to their own Churches. It's also a book for those completely dissatisfied - those on their own search. And it's a book for Orthodox Christians, looking for renewal.

A story of the journey…

Growing up in a protestant and evangelical background this book resonated with me. It perfectly describes the journey I went through from my childhood. The stories reflected the yearning and the searching for the truth church. But also expressed the victories in the struggles. Hearing the stories from the authors perspective and in the authors own voice helps to capture the specialness of this book.

I love you dad!

Compelling Story

So great to hear Fr Peter's warm voice. We miss him. The history is well told, and even after having read the entire book 13 years ago we found it still or again fascinating. The epilog was especially rich, but don't skip straight to it—the rest of the book builds to make the end profound.

Good Explanation for non-Orthodox

The author is a former Protestant minister turned Orthodox priest. His explanations and defense of Orthodox teachings are aimed at non-Orthodox Christians, and since he was once Protestant, he knows exactly what to discuss.

Great book for protestants who are inquiring Ortho

I come from a protestant background and I had more than a few hangups when I began inquiring into Orthodoxy in 2018. I wish I'd found this book back then as it would have made it a lot easier on me. Fr. Gillquist was an amazing man responsible for the conversion of thousands to Orthodox Christianity. Every argument a protestant could have against the Orthodox church and its practices is tackled in this book using scripture. He makes a great case for the original Christian church and I suggest this to anyone who is inquiring or knows someone who is.

I'm Baptist looking for answers

As stated by another reviewer, the style the reader is as if one is reading a in a natural voice, without a ton of inflection. However you do feel the emotion and enthusiasm of the author/reader and his passion comes through. This book answered many questions for me and allowed me to see that I am not alone in my quest for authenticity of faith and the original Church.

I pray that anyone reading will receive the blessing that I have.

Welcome Home

If only I could turn back the hands of time.

My only disappointment is that I was unaware of the Orthodox Faith in 1987! However, 2022 marks the beginning of the rest of my life as an Orthodox Christian.

This book parallels much of my personal journey through Evangelicalism. The single word I would choose to describe my faith and understanding over these last 54 years is 'truncated'. In a sense held hostage by those who with the most sincere hearts, practiced a largely misinformed faith. We punctuated our theological assertions with a period where a comma would have been most appropriate.

The Orthodox faith is a deep well filled with the richness and fullness of all God intended for His Church. The charted course is not an easy one to follow, but then again Christ never promised an easy path, only that He would provide the light and the Guide.

In a voice reminiscent of a blend of Garrison Keillor and John Goodman, Father Peter Gilquist reads his book in a folksy conversational manner that is easy to understand. The book is very accessible to any Christian at nearly any stage of life. Father Peter offers a riveting story of their path toward Orthodoxy, and soon their journey will compel you to consider your own.

It's never too late to step into the fullness of God's intention for you as His beloved child. I too long to hear the words, "Welcome Home."

Great book for those looking to worship Christ.

This is a great book for those looking for the church described in the New Testament. Protestants who are looking for the ancient faith that is found in the Orthodox Church.
