About this listen

In September 1925, Scotland Yard DCI Alec Fletcher inherits a large house on the outskirts of London from a recently deceased great-uncle. Fortunately so, as he and his wife, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, are the recent proud parents of twins, and their house is practically bursting at the seams. Though in need of a bit of work, this new, larger house seems a godsend - set in a small circle of houses, with a communal garden and Hampstead Heath nearby, the setting is idyllic.

Idyllic, that is until a dead body shows up half-hidden under the bushes of the communal garden. Now rumors of bootleggers, American gangsters, and an international liquor smuggling operation via black ships have turned everything in their new neighborhood upside down. Alec is assigned by Scotland Yard to ferret out the truth behind the dastardly dead - but it's up to Daisy to find out who the dead man is, what his relationship to her new neighbors is, why he was murdered, and who did him in!

Spiffing story as usual

I really like how the story is told with accuracy of the 1920s. Daisy is a strong female lead but not overly so as to take away from the story. I also like getting to know Tom Tring and Piper and of course Alec. I've read all the books up to this point and plan to continue. A Daisy Dalrymple Mystery television series would be very popular.

Fun and Educational

Exciting, bringing characters from past story. Always love the narrator. The voices she gives each character always makes the read immediately understand their personality. I have enjoyed every book.

a tale of prohibition

A character from a previous story appears. Daisy and Alec inherit a house. And of course, a body turns up near their new place. Another fun mystery!

Binge worthy

I am going through the Daisy Del Ripple series compulsively, and it seems to be that every book is better than the last. Daisies personality is endearing and admirable, and the story of her and Alex meeting, “chip, marriage, and journey as a family weaves through each successive mystery. I quite appreciate that the books are not gory or particularly frightening. It’s an advantage that nearly every murder victim is thoroughly unlikable, and ultimately, the culprits generally turn out to be so too No heavy reading here, just delightful and amusing. Pieces the transport one to post World War I England. Most highly recommended

Alec is a twit…

While I’ve enjoyed the series on the whole, I’m really beginning to tire of Alec. One more, “Great Scott, Daisy!” and I may throw in the towel. I wish he was charming and kind to Daisy like he was when they first met. It made for a sweeter sub-plot. But like I said, overall, I enjoy this series and will keep listening.

Interesting sequel

This series has a good clean story line. The historical settings/events are interesting. Love the British accents which make for easy listening. Enjoyed each of these in the series so far!

really hit their stride

another fun adventure for Daisy as she and Alec move into suburban bliss and now must deal with the inevitable slings and barbs of a murder in the neighborhood.

i enjoy how Dunn brings in the issue of America's Prohibition and how the UK dealt with that law. it was an interesting perspective. i enjoyed her little short story about rum runners (though that poem seemed odd)

the murder mystery solution itself was fairly obvious early on but it was great seeing how daisy and alec tried to unravel it. daisy has clearly gotten a bit of alec's cynicism and skill with paperwork now but alec has gotten a bit of Daisy's sentimentality and it works well.

as usual it is the characters that make the story interesting and what draws you into these books and here they were great. I hope we will see more of these folks as the series continues. the return of Lambert was less fun but he plays a part in the story unlike his previous adventure.

great voice acting, I had a lot of fun.
