About this listen

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh - a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the world of the Fae and of Man.

Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.

Critic reviews

"Moning's delectable Mac is breathlessly appealing, and the wild perils she must endure are peppered with endless conundrums. The results are addictively dark, erotic and even shocking." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Spiced with a subtle yet delightfully sharp sense of humor...delectably dark and sexy." ( Chicago Tribune)

Leaves you wanting more! Guilty pleasure!!

Hot, full of angst, enthralling and completely addictive.
I love this series. Book two picks up right where the first leaves off. Doesn't miss a beat, and gets better with each word! You might as well buy this with book three. You will want more when you finish this second book.
Love this narrator. Read this series.

Great, Great Series

I loved this second book. Just as good as the first. Keep up the rhythm. As usual, Ms. Moning knows how to write a thrilling, suspenseful, quality story. This second book picks up from the first and gives you enough detail, from the first, that you are caught up in no time. The narrator did an excellent job with the characters. You feel like you thoroughly know their personalities. Looking forward to the next book.

The suspense builds!

Not really standalone- you should absolutely read Darkfever first.
*Spoiler Alert*
The Publisher’s Summary is good but a little misleading as MacKayla is still growing into herself and is not yet pivotal in keeping the walls from coming down.
In this installment:
-Inspector O’Duffy finds the discrepancy of the maps and is murdered
-Barrons parts ways with Fiona when she tries to kill Mac by using Shades
-Mac meets Dani O’Malley and finds out more about the Sidhe-seers from Rowena
-Derek O’Banion comes searching for his missing brother Rocky, then ends up with the Lord Master
-Enter the first MacKeltar when Mac meets Christian
-V’lane takes Mac for a day in Faery with Alina that lasts a month
-Barrons kills Mallucé when he kidnaps Mac, but she loses her Oop detection when she uses his secret of eating Unseelie to survive
-Mac finds out who has the Sinsar Dubh and why it travels across Dublin
Bean does a great job voicing MacKayla Lane!
Great series! Recommend!

Fever Fan

I enjoyed this book, and the development of the characters. I am not a fan of Joyce Bean as a narrator.....her male voices.....*shakes head* I love in the later books when Phil Gigante lends his talented vocal chords to the male voices.

The storyline really starts to take off, and you get to meet many characters who you will see throughout. I definitely recommend "Bloodfever!"

The Inner Monologue Drags

While I'm very enthralled with the story, the inner monologues that the main character has Drags on and on and on AND on. Just when you think it's finally done, that she's given alllllll of the examples possible...she still has several more to give.

"It was like this, that, and the other. Like this this, that that and another other. Like this this this, that that that and yet Another other. It was..." You get my drift. 🙄

Other than that, I like the book and series. Very descriptive (No one can take that title away from KMM lol!). World building is excellent. I can understand why some don't like the narrator, but I can deal with it. Still I'm happy it will change in the next book. She just sounds too old for both Mac and Jericho.
