About this listen

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown…and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue.

Got me over my Fourth Wing hang over

I really enjoyed this book. The story was unique and full if action. I loved the characters and their development. Books that are 5 stars for me are books that don’t make me bored or zone out at all during and this was definitely one of them. The performance of the narrator was great which is awesome because that can kill an audio book for me. My only regret was that I didn’t look to see if there was a second novel until half way through the book and I knew it was going to just result in another book hang over. I’ve already got one of my friends starting it next

Best book I’ve read in years

This was an amazing story and performance, the right amount of drama, action and romance.

Well worth the listen/read! I do not read this style often but I was enthralled and couldn’t stop reading when I had time

liked it

Very, very slow start, but picks up. Maybe not as complex of story, nor does it have the depth of emotion, as Maas novels or Armintrout's blood and ash/flesh and fire series, to which it is compared by some. But entertaining and worth the read. Narrator isn't my favorite, but it may be more that first person narration--with its endless inner monologs--is not my favorite. Still, looking forward to Book 2.

Narrator is a legend and further supports the book

Great book and the narrator for this book is perfect. As opposed to many books with the mix between fantasy and teen love this book seems to be so professionally and almost more adult like in its writing.

Amazing performance
I have ADHD & I sat still during this reading. Great book with a gripping plot as well as an amazing narrator who made me understand the change of character every shift. I highly recommend.

Out of one slump into another

I picked this up because another review said it got them out of a reading slump after Fourth Wing. They were right. Similar vibes to the first Mistborn book, with the vampiric world building on the same level as the Dresden Files, and a slow burn enemies to lovers plot line very akin to that of Fourth Wing. Excellent read that had me laughing, crying, and yearning for the next book. I don’t know what book I could possibly pick up next.

Unexpected plot twists

I immersed myself in a world where survival is vital for humans and vampires. Oraya, the orphaned human daughter of a powerful vampire king, embarks on a dangerous journey by entering the Kejari tournament. She also allies with Raihn, a mysterious vampire and her fierce competitor. The story's blend of dark humor, steely determination, and intricate relationships kept me hooked. Oraya's resilience and the slow-burning romance with Raihn added depth to the narrative, creating a thrilling tale of love, betrayal, and survival. Broadbent's vivid storytelling and unexpected plot twists made this fantasy adventure an unforgettable read.
