An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Good story
A great story with less than stellar narration.
Putting that aside (as best I can), I really like the characters in these books. They seem real and are interesting. I’m curious how Jack and Roxanne develop in subsequent books. The neighbors in “Prosperity” are people I could run into on any given day. I have to remind myself that this was written before the proliferation of cell phones. And, in fact, given so many dead zones in Maine, one may not work now in Prosperity.
The plot was serious. Sadly, children having babies is a very real problem. And the cycle does tend to repeat.
I’m sorry to nitpick, Gerry Boyle, but the state House dome is copper not golden. :-)
I’m not a fan of the narrator. Too staccato and his women’s voices are weird.
I received this book from the author - thank you - and I promised a fair review.

Holy Batman
Who knew that just writing an article on teenage pregnancy could become a murder mystery especially in the rural town of "Prosperity" Maine, which has little prosperity. This is my first Jack McMorrow Mystery and will read Book 1, which might help me with understanding the characters more, however, I did enjoy the book and the book does make you think of teenage pregnancy, as well as does the mother allow the cycle to continue or does she think of more than just herself and think of what might be best for the child and giving the child opportunities that she knows that she never could in "Prosperity" Maine.
The narrator did a good job, however, there were portions of the book where it was stop, go, stop and go and the reading was not a fluid, natural path...almost like this first the first time reading the book, but all in all was pretty good.

Jack McMorrow is Very Entertaining!
This was so entertaining, very much due to the character of Jack McMorrow. Very likable with his dry humor, the book had me smiling unexpectedly quite often.
It also contains a complex, twisting mystery. While researching a freelance article, one of his interviewees is murdered. That takes his investigation from a lifestyle story to a homicide investigation. He isn’t law enforcement, but he is most definitely involved.
Great characters, fast paced, and an intriguing plot. It’s a good one!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. You can find my full review at Mystery Suspense Reviews.

Love Jack McMorrow
I started with the later books in this series so the Jack McMorrow that I was introduced to is just coming into himself with this listen. That was nice to see. No spoilers though.
This mystery was a bit of a heart breaker. A young girl gets pregnant and, trusting the adults in her world, gives the kid up for adoption. Her mind gets changed (by Jack?) and then stuff happens.
Jack's quest to figure out the stuff was bittersweet.
The narrator is incredibly well-suited for this material. He brings the real and the weird to Jack (Jack is a bit of a jokester) and that kept me engaged with the listen.
I don't know which book this is in the series but I know how good things will be!

A Hero to Admire; An Enthralling Mystery
In Bloodline, the second Jack McMorrow story, our hero continues to evolve—yet remain true to the character we met in the first novel. McMorrow is blessed with (well--- author-endowed with) curiosity, intelligence, honor, loyalty, bravery... and a wonderful sense of humor. I'd follow him anywhere--- and will continue to do so through the series.
The mystery in which he finds himself—how was the adoption arranged? who has raised the stakes to murder?—unfolds organically, compellingly, all set in a true-to-life rural Maine community. There is sadness and desolation--- but McMorrow imbues the landscape with hope.
I highly recommend this novel!
(Great reader, too! The Maine accents are well done and sound authentic. And having grown up listening to “Down-Eastahs" talk, I find many put-on accents grate--- these are a joy to the ear!)
