Publisher's summary

Twenty-one-year-old Phoenix Silverstone, Nix to her friends, has recently discovered the luxury of independence. After being raised under the strict rules of an overbearing and close-minded mother, Nix has moved into a small Seattle apartment with her two best friends. Once the girls land a job working at a local bar together, everything seems perfect.

For the first time in her life, Nix is able to spread her wings and breathe.

She finds freedom, friendship, and a great job, and she is on the verge of landing a fantastic man. Her eyes, and heart, are set on Tristan, the suave, intelligent, and gorgeous law student. Until Levi Munroe crosses her path, that is. Nix knows she needs to avoid the charming, tattooed, and downright sexy bad boy, but when one of her friends suddenly moves out and Levi fills the vacancy, that won’t be easy to do.

Flirting. Desire. Undeniable temptations.

Nix can’t deny the chemistry surging between them, but she can’t forget her mother’s extreme hate toward bad boys either. Will Nix have the strength to listen to her heart? Or will her mother’s rules cost her everything?

Loved Nix and Levi

Loved Nix and Levi! Loved the storyline, love free flirting and the way things happened. My heart aches for Nix and her life story and I can’t wait to see more of it. Full of chemistry, my favorite kind of story!

narrator sounds like a 15 year old

The narrator sounds like a little kid. Just couldn't listen to it. I might just buy the book.

Love leads the way

I really like this story because it is so realistic. Phoenix is torn between a man that her parents would definitely approve of and Levi, a man that they would hate just because of his tattoos. But Levi is the man that sets her body on fire and has the best heart. Would her parents disown her? This story is as heart-wrenching as it is heartwarming. The narrator does not have distinctive voices for the characters but she is a good storyteller. I asked to receive this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. I highly recommend this Audible book. It shows that that best family may not be blood related, but may be the friends that are always there for you. Also a person's outward appearance doesn't tell who they are inside.

I loved this story!

Jude Ouvrard tells a story as well as any indie author I have read. She is great at developing characters, describing them so we feel like we know them. Nix and Levi became our best friends as their lives connected, separated and reconnected. We felt their sadness and their joy and always wanted them to succeed, separately and together. I loved the descriptions of the Black Shaker Club and Ink Me studio. The three gal pals, Val, Bekka and Nix brought a playfulness to the story that made me giggle at times. From Seattle to Boston and back, I was taken on a ride that kept me engaged. I was waiting for the twist, for the revelation or the “aha” moment that I know Jude does so well. I was not disappointed. This was a terrific story. I highly recommend this book for either your reading or your listening pleasure. Congratulations, Jude. You have another winner.

I wanna know what happens next!

This is so well-written that I could easily imagine the events as they take place in the story. The characters have great chemistry and the dynamic of their relationships are realistic and relatable. This story does end with an HEA, but it also ends with a cliffhanger so maybe it's HFN as it approaches an HEA...?

The narrator Nathalie Johnson spoke in a soft, dreamy tone- she reminded me of the character Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies! I find it odd that she did accents but not voices. The narration also included "end of chapter __" at the end of each chapter which made the narrator sound like she is simply reading a book instead of actually telling a story.

Choices of Safe "Good Guy" and Tattooed "Bad Boy"

Body, Ink and Soul is the first book in the Ink Series. The story can be read alone, but it does end on a cliffhanger. Nathalie Johnson narrated this book in a very breathy voice. It does sound like she is just reading the book out loud, rather than voice acting. The only character who had a unique voice was a friend with a British accent.

Phoenix "Nix" Silverstone was raised in a strict home. Her mother fell for the "bad boy" who left her pregnant and alone. Her mother did marry another man, but raised Nix to judge people by their looks and not trust those who look different. As a young adult, Nix and her two best friends have moved away from home for college and work. Nix works two jobs and one is so she can be near her crush, law student, Tristan. He seems sweet, patient clean cut and all she thinks she wants from a boyfriend.

Then along comes Levi. He is all her mother warned her about, tattooed, works as a tattoo artist, more of a free spirit and unpredictable. So why does Nix feel so attracted to Levi, even when she thinks he isn't what she wants? This book takes us through learning that you should not judge a book by its cover. Nix eventually figures that out with a pseudo happy for now.

Loved this!

This story is told so well! I am immediately brought into these characters lives and I can’t stop listening! I love that Nix has become independent with her besties. They all seem to have a great relationship. I thought Tristan was “it” for Nix but then bad boy Levi walks in and asks her to smile.
Once Levi and Nix get together I Love it. He is wonderful and looks amazing as well! He is so different from his stereotype. That’s what makes him great.

This is my first book by this author! I loved it and will be looking for more from her. She writes so the reader can identify with the characters and look at them as friends. Very nicely done! I listened to this on audio and N Johnson did a wonderful job. She was easy and fun to listen to.

DNF. I couldn't.

I received the audiobook for free. This is a non bias review. I just couldn't finish it. The story seemed ok. Nothing special. I just couldn't get over the narrator. She sounds about the right age, which is a good thing. However, she is kind of monotone. She doesn't do any inflections. So, it sounds like she is just reading a book not acting it out. The story seemed to drag on and on with her narration. After 2 hours, I was done.
