Publisher's summary

Arabella Holmes - yes, daughter of that Holmes - wants to return to her job as a purveyor of abnormal science. She has temporarily been demoted to a botanist, until her love interest, Henry Watson - yes, that Watson - can help her get her less-than-professional outbursts in check.

Henry is tired of his new role as doctor, tired of the lack of adventure, and tired of keeping Bella's escapades out of the papers.

Five girls are missing. Gone from locked rooms in their own houses. Arabella and Henry are called upon to help solve the kidnappings, but all they unearth is more danger.

Bella ventures undercover into a lunatic asylum, where a mute woman assaults her and scrawls the chilling words - Here the dead wake. Plus, a vial of Bella's research poison has gone missing. Bella and Henry must find it, and the missing girls, before charges can be brought against her.

Historical Philadelphia

Wow, as I listened to this story I was doing a comparison in my mind of the streets of Philadelphia back then to what they are now in 2021. Rebecca's voice is very easy to listen to and her accent draws you in, I could listen to her all day. The different character voices are so different, a few times I had to look to see if there was more than one narrator. The pace of this story was right on target, it didn't feel rushed or too slow.

The story - woven through with intrigue, a love story between Bella & Henry while they try to solve these mysteries and disappearances. This is book 2 but is easily a stand alone story if you haven't read book 1.

Daughter of Sherlock son of Watson

I started on this book not reading book one.
There is enough of a recap that this works out ok.

I know Bella has a fascination with bones but this really isn’t that case in this story so the title is a little odd but I did enjoy it.

I’m not sure what has happened to both sets of parents but they don’t seem to be around anymore. The story is full of action and reminds me a lot of the original Sherlock crime stories. I enjoyed listening to this book.

Got it At the End

This story for me was a little difficult to follow. I think if I read the book myself, I may have been able to follow it better but I think I got the gist of it overall. Bella is trying to find missing girls, she goes under cover at an asylum thinking that has something to do with it because of a van she saw there, but in all actuality, her and Henry actually just want to get back to the field of digging up bones. They have to help solve this, stay out of trouble, and keep their jobs in order to do so. And Bella is caught up in a love triangle to boot. You'll have to listen to see what happens

Great read!

A good historical feeling novel that doesn’t feel like a history lesson lol loved the characters and plot line. Can’t wait to continue this series
