Publisher's summary

A course in the Buddhist practice of the brahma viharas, or "heavenly abodes". Detailed instructions from the Buddhist tradition in cultivating mindfulness, presented by a prominent Insight Meditation teacher.

Compassion, kindness, equanimity, and joy are not only the fruits of the awakened life but also the path to it: attitudes of mind that can be cultivated by anyone willing to set the intention for doing so. Christina Feldman shows how these ennobling qualities - known in Buddhism as the brahma viharas (sublime abodes) or the Four Immeasurables - are far more than simply the "feel-good" states they are sometimes mistaken for. If we pursue them sincerely as spiritual practice, they work together, complementing and enhancing each other, to lead us to the kind of awakening that we are compelled to share with others. Thus through the practice of the brahma viharas, we can become participants in the healing and liberation of our world.

A must for anyone who is self criticizing

This book really hit home for me. It is exceptionally well written and beautifully narrated. Christina Feldman, provides the perfect Buddist teachings and parables, insightful quotes, and stories. Christina, has authored a crown gem among her many excellent books.

The performer is rushing through as on speed , not right for this story at all

The performer was rushing , no sense that this a spiritual book , as if it was a manual , way to to fast with no feeling where to pause

Worst narrator ever

I think maybe they just had Siri read this one. It doesn’t even sound like a human reading it, and she just blows through all punctuation. This narrator completely destroyed this book, which I think is actually quite good. I am going to have to read it instead of listen.

Challenging Narrator

The narrator was truly irritating. She read in a very clipped, emotionless voice at a high rate of speed. I rarely don't finish a book but I couldn't finish this one. The content was overpowered by poor narration.
