Publisher's summary
Breathwork guide and meditation teacher Matteo Pistono offers a how-to book for upgrading your nervous system to live your optimal life physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Do you want to calm your racing thoughts before lying down for a restful night of sleep? Or raise your energy levels before your morning exercise or spin class, and have laser focus before an important meeting? Are you overwhelmed from the flood of information from your social media and news feed? Any time your emotional state is out of balance, there are time-tested, practical methods to breathe your way back into the state of being you want.
You have the capacity to change how you feel, in any moment, when you partner with your breath. It’s a matter of paying attention and then consciously altering your breathing pattern.
Too often books on breathing and breathwork coaches do not teach the actual mechanics of breathing. Instead, they guide one-off sessions, teach protocols, or direct you to an app. The consequence of just following a protocol without understanding breathing mechanics leaves the student disempowered and dependent on the teacher. Instead, in Breathe How You Want to Feel, learning functional breathing becomes the basis upon which you gain control of your well-being—it’s the secret tool behind resiliency.
Breathe How You Want to Feel offers you a psychophysical tool kit that includes:
· awareness building,
· understanding the dials of your nervous system,
· the importance of nasal breathing,
· how breath holds (even when very short) are a superpower, and
· how to integrate optimal breathing throughout your everyday life, especially when you're sleeping.
You’ll use these tools to optimize your breathing to overcome being tired, wired, and uninspired. You’ll learn how to breathe optimally during your workday, while exercising, when entering meditative and flow states, and for deep rest. And you’ll partner with your breath to discover deeper meaning in life. This book meets you, the breather, where you are with step-by-step actionable tools to improve your health, sleep, and well-being.

Achieve more with less effort: The secret to weight loss, fitness, and wellness lies in the most basic and most overlooked function of your body - how you breathe. One of the biggest obstacles to better health and fitness is a rarely identified problem: chronic overbreathing. We often take many more breaths than we need without realizing it, contributing to poor health and fitness, including a host of disorders, from anxiety and asthma to insomnia and heart problems.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Story
At thirty-six, Naomi Watts had just completed filming King Kong and was trying to start a family when she was told that she was on the brink of menopause. It is estimated that seventy-five million women in the United States are currently dealing with menopause symptoms (dry itchy skin, raging hormones, night sweats), and yet the very word “menopause” continues to be associated with stigma and confusion. With so little information, many women feel unprepared, ashamed, and deeply alone when the time comes. This is the book Naomi Watts wishes she had when she first started experiencing symptoms.

Perhaps it can help open the airways of the lungs, enhance blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain, improve sleep, and bring calmness to the mind. It might even restore bodily functions disturbed by stress, build greater resilience, and help you to live longer. You might think this description sounds farfetched. But it isn’t.

The breathwork utilizes the remarkable healing and transformative potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness. These states engender a rich array of experiences with unique healing potential - reliving childhood memories, infancy, birth and prenatal life, and elements from the historical and archetypal realms of the collective unconscious.

Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Turn your breath into your superpower!
Pistono combines personal storytelling and the spiritual foundations of various breathing methods with a modern understanding of physiology and practical applications for daily life. The book is a toolkit for personalizing your journey with the breath because everyone is unique. His AIR framework—Awareness, Intervention, and Regulation—is an invaluable strategy for taking control of your mental and physical state for a better and deeper experience of life.
I love the guided practices in this audio edition. It's so helpful to hear the book in Pistono's own voice and do the practices with him. At the same time, I've purchased the print edition as my go-to reference when I want to revisit the practices at my own pace.

Life-changing book + guided practices
I bought this book in paperback and immediately realized I would benefit from the Audible version in different ways, so I purchased both. In this Audible version, I love the guided practices set to music and read aloud by the author Matteo Pistono. With the Audible version, I can listen repeatedly. As noted in my Amazon paperback review, this book will change your life if you work it. After trying many other areas of healing (diet, trauma therapy, acupuncture, reiki, etc.), a dear friend and healer shared this book with me. Matteo Pistono provides powerful tools we always have with us - learning how to breathe and how to work with our breathing to balance our nervous system, raise energy levels, rest, and focus. Matteo teaches all of this as you listen to this book. He also sprinkles in interesting stories from his fascinating life and journey. I highly recommend this book in print and audio form! And if you ever have a chance to participate in one of his breathwork events, take it! I had the blessing of doing a 20-minute group session with him as part of this book launch with divine music by Michelle Anise, and my heart rate went to the level of sleeping immediately. So powerful. I will listen, read, re-listen, re-read, and share with others. Thank you so much, Matteo!
