About this listen

Love is blind and lust is too...

Detective David Porter had just closed the file on his latest serial killer case when horrific murders with the same MO start happening in and around Houston. A 15-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, Porter was one of the best serial killer detectives in the country, his talents known worldwide. The recently promoted officer couldn't ask for much more. He was husband to one of the hottest women on the planet, former-model-turned-news-anchor Miranda Porter. He also had two beautiful daughters. Yes, life was good... or so it seemed.

A cunning serial killer was on the prowl, brutally killing every child he could get his hands on. Porter was hot on his trail, but the killer was an expert - no mistakes. A late night of work, a storm and a car accident would lead David head first into another case - a kidnapping - and this time it was personal. Could there be a connection between the two? David was staring face-first down the barrel of both cases and time was running out.

Does Detective Porter have what it takes to bring these criminals to justice? Will the good life he once enjoyed elude him forever? Only time will tell.

Good but Major Cliffhanger

The story was fast paced and I enjoyed the characters. Overall is was a good read but some things are just too unrealistic. David Porter is hailed as the best detective so it is hard to believe he does not check out a new love interest more thoroughly especially before allowing her to move in and be a part of his daughters lives. He misses some major clues because he is lead by his nether regions and not his brain. My only other issue is that this book contains a major cliffhanger so the story is not complete and you must continue to book 2 (and maybe even 3) to get answers. In my opinion if a cliffhanger like this is involved then it should be mentioned in the blurb. The narrator did a nice job at bringing the story and characters to life.

Thrilling and chilling tale.

If you could sum up Chained Guilt in three words, what would they be?

Frightening, sad, and exciting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Karen because of her sweet innocence.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, but changing of characters a little boring.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Miranda is found and tells David not to feel guilty because he didn't know she was alive. Not sure I would be so forgiving.

Any additional comments?

Cliffhanger.

This was a good and engagingly dark story.

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a good and engagingly dark story. I really enjoyed it and thought it was well narrated. But why do authors feel the need to have cliffhangers? So frustrating when you can't move on to the next book to see what will happen... that is, assuming there WILL be another book. If not, that's 7 hours I can't get back. Here's hoping for book 2!

A very interesting and different kind of story

I really enjoyed the flow of this story and the fact that it starts out as a fast paced action / intrigue kind of story and then morphs into a love story with a police procedural as the back drop. The characters were well developed and for the most part made choices that were realistic. I only gave it four stars because I did not know it was book
1 and it leaves off on a major cliff hanger. Normally, this would not be a bad thing, but it is the only one available on Audible so far.

Mr. Kafer is amazing as always. He has a very down to earth kind of style that makes you relate to characters regardless of whether they are action heroes or stay at home fathers. Great job.

Cliffhanger!

I had read the e-book before listening to the audiobook and found myself sucked into the story. I loved the twists this book had and everything about it EXCEPT for the CLIFFHANGER ENDING! The premise of moving on after a spouse is gone is understandable especially for a father. Some of the scenes described in this story are what nightmares are made up of. I thought the narrator did an exceptionally good performance with his emotions regarding the daughters in this book. I never saw the ending coming in this book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. Maximum Guilt is the next e-book in this series with the continuation of what happens next to David Porter.

On the fence...

This is a fast paced psychological thriller full of twists and turns that keep you listening but at the same time thinking how idiotic can the detective be?! I enjoyed the story but it's quite unbelievable...and it's a cliffhanger ending. I'm not sure I will listen to the next one, I'm on the fence. Jeffrey Kafer did a great job with the narration. Cliffhanger. Not a great detective afterall.

What disappointed you about Chained Guilt?

The detective is touted as one of the best detective in the world and yet, he does so many mistakes and misses obvious clues. Just for once, if the detective didn't throw caution to the wind when it came to love interest, it'd be great.

What could Terry Keys have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This books ends on a cliffhanger. The story doesn't end and you have to read the next book or two to finish it. Giving some sort of closure at the end of the book would've made it much better. I understand books in a series needing some sort of enticement to push the readers to the next book. But when it is this sort of blatant push, I absolutely don't like it.

What three words best describe Jeffrey Kafer’s voice?

No complaints about the narration or audio quality.
