About this listen
Some debts are not so easily repaid—or forgiven.
Nicolai Attano finally has everything he's ever wanted: control over the Iron Saint Railway, safety for his family, and not a single rival syndicate to stand in his way. Never could he have imagined he'd want anything more than power—not until Camilla Marchese.
Six weeks have passed since the disaster on the train and his wife was kidnapped. To get her back, he'll need help. Nico struggles to work with a city poisoned against him and is instead forced to seek the aid of a disreputable black-market dealer. A simple bargain to ensure her rescue, Nico doesn't think twice. A bargain is struck, and the cost is higher than ever. The collateral? His life.
Meanwhile, Camilla fights to gain control over her newfound powers as the alchemist in charge of her confinement puts her to the test. Forced to free what she's held so close, the only light in this hellish prison is the hope to see her family again, and the husband who stole her heart. Three trials and three chances to find the source of her Chaos and use it to save herself, if it doesn't destroy her first.
Cracks in the city draw lines between loyalties, and time is running out until everything comes crashing down. Return to Lynchaven in this action-packed and swoony conclusion of Nico and Milla's story.

Nico has his own motivations for their union beyond maintaining peace with her family. A serial kidnapper known as The Collector has been ravaging the streets of Remnant Row, stirring up mistrust between natives and descendants. If Milla can help restore safety to his streets, he'll have no need for her or her family's company. Find the Collector, prevent a war between their sides of the city, and pay off the family debt before she turns twenty-one. If Milla can fulfill her end of the bargain, she'll walk away with more freedom than she's ever had before.

Story
As the half faerie daughter of a human king, my days were spent tucked out of sight—until the Seelie Fae sought an alliance with our kingdom. In exchange for my father’s help in defeating their Unseelie enemies, I would wed Atakan the heartless. The Seelie prince loathed everyone, but none more than me. Throughout the years leading to our nuptials, each encounter grew more terrifying than the last as he demonstrated how he’d earned his infamous reputation.

Story
When I was a little girl, I dreamed a handsome knight would come and rescue me from my wretched mother. He'd ride up on his white steed and break the curse I've been fated to carry since the day I was born. Funny how things changed over time, how the fairytale twisted into something far more crooked—and darker—than I ever imagined. In reality, my knight is scarred and broken, living alone in a castle of bones that overlooks the sea. He isn’t searching for me. He never was.

Story
There are whispers about what lurks in Witch Knell—the forest where sinners go to die. The villagers call it The Eating Woods because what's taken is never given back. Only those who've lost their senses would dare to go near it. Or the banished. Maevyth Bronwick knows better than to breach the misty labyrinth of trees, but a tragic turn of events compels her beyond the archway of bones to a boundary no mortal has crossed before. One that cloaks a dark and fantastical world that's as dangerous as it is alluring. It's there that he dwells, the cursed lord of Eidolon.

Story
I was fifteen when the Death King came for us. With a mighty black dragon and the ability to command the dead, he raised an army of our fallen soldiers to fight for him—and conquered us in the night. My father, King Laurier of Scorpion Valley, couldn’t stop him. I tried to flee but came face to face with the man in black armor, the man who looked more like a god than a human. Instead of killing me, he chose to show me mercy… but it didn’t feel like mercy. Not when the next ten years of my life are spent as a slave in the Arid Sands, digging for Black Diamonds from sunrise to sunset.

After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Story
Shaun Gallagher offers an account of psychopathologies as disorders of the self. The Self and its Disorders develops an interdisciplinary approach to an "integrative" perspective in psychiatry. In contrast to some integrative approaches that focus on narrow brain-based conceptions, or on symptomology, this book takes its bearings from embodied and enactive conceptions of human experience.

My father, King Laurier of Scorpion Valley, couldn’t stop him. I tried to flee but came face to face with the man in black armor, the man who looked more like a god than a human. Great story and performance
There were a few scenes that dragged on and felt whiny but overall intriguing story with good twists. My biggest issue with this book was a section in the middle where there were three sex scenes separated by like one chapter each. It delayed plot advancement and was a little much. Would have been better if they were spread out through the book. Love both the narrators though James’s female voices are not convincing, so the scenes where he read Mila’s lines were a little painful. Overall still very much enjoyed this book and am looking forward to book 3.

Everything I didn't know I needed
I was definitely surprised by all the twist and turns. Definitely had some unpredictability. The main female character was strong and did not overthink things. The romance turned out to be beautifully written. I love the combination of the Peaky Blinders vibes mixed with magic. Highly recommend to give it a listen, the performance was fantastic.

A bright shiny diamond!
In a sea of pretty albeit mediocre gems (books that are good, enjoyable but usually end up forgotten in a sea of the same old tropes and tricks) this one stands out and shines. It has amazing characters, a unique world of some other time past or present in another world here nor there that captivates you and yet pulls you into that perfect place where disbelief is suspended on a cloud of fantasy. Which is truly a beautiful thing. This is one I’ll remember and revisit and recommend.

Slower pace but still good
This book was really good but lacked a little especially following such an insanely strong first book!
The pacing was a good deal slower and I would’ve liked to see more of the FMC magic since such a big deal was made of it. I didn’t feel as invested but I also was taking my time reading it so I think it was a me a problem. I still love the characters and secondary characters and world that was created and it’s still a duology that I would recommend especially since the FMC and the MMC are probably some of my favs!

Fluid continuation of first book
This was a great second book. It kept the plot steady but twisted. The character development was genuine and how they grappled with family ties and betrayal are relatable yet still set in a fantasy world. This author is new to me and I will definitely be reading more of her work.
