Publisher's summary

After the daily grind at their jobs, all Sonya and Callie want is to enjoy a quiet night out together at a new restaurant. But making it to their reservation is proving to be a challenge.

A few men on the street near their destination verbally assault them. The situation quickly escalates into a nightmare. Once within the safety of the restaurant, the two women discover it’s not just the men outside who’ve lost their minds; men everywhere have gone insane. And they believe they’ve found the origin of the mayhem.

A radio in the kitchen is playing a hate-filled message against women, and it’s being delivered by the president. There’s only one way to stop the men from attacking women, and logic tells them they need to terminate the chaos at its source.

not for the faint of heart.

I went into this book not knowing anything about it, and God damn! this book is intense! plenty of violence and gore. not a story for everyone, as the content is both controversial and doesn't hold anything back.

the narrator was PERFECT for this book! she did a great job capturing the characters voiced and personality. I'll be checking out not of Hunt's work!

Sex Zombies?

Well that was new. A radio transmission that’s saying a bunch of derogatory statements and pick up lines has got all the men acting crazy and trying to hump any female they see. This was my first book from C. V. Hunt and I have to say I was impressed. This was a new take on the zombie genre. One that I don’t think anyone has thought of before. It’s fast paced and violent and sexual. All the hallmarks of an extreme horror novel. It’s also heartbreaking and terrifying. Hunt let’s us get know the two protagonists very well before putting them through the gauntlet. I felt terrible for the main character and what happens to her and her girlfriend. Some of the scenes are pretty brutal and shocking and over the top. It won’t be long before I pick up another book from this author. Also I listened to the audio version and it was read exceptionally well by Ramona Masters. I’ll listen to whatever else she reads as well.

Engrossing--but not for the squeamish

"Cockblock" (2018) by C.V. Hunt is an engrossing horror novel about American males throughout the country suddenly turning into violent predators, consumed with one goal: raping to death any woman they encounter on the spot. The story is told from the perspective of Sonya, a young lesbian who joins other women to fight for survival. Not for the squeamish. The absence of an explanation about the phenomenon’s origin is a glaring omission. Ramona Master’s narration is well done. Strongly recommended. Audiobook given free in exchange for honest review.

Good, but difficult to listen to at times

Ok. The book is well written, but be warned, it's very graphic and does not pull any punches. I had to stop listening in several places and pick it back up when I'd recovered. Also, the language is VERY adult, so be sure there's no little ones around to hear "C U Next Tuesday" being thrown out there with a fair amount of frequency.

I was given this book free at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Overall a solid story

The story was good, ending wrapped up rather quickly & a bit easily. Some gratuitous sex. A rather unlikely way to kill what are dubbed ‘sex zombies’ (that sounds funny, I know).
No explanation as to why men have turned in to sex zombies. Also no explanation as to why the woman in the restaurant did what she did to herself.
Crazy nuns and a president who seems a lot like Trump in many ways.
All in all it was a good read.
Narration was great.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Unstable Genius

This bizarre piece of gruesome, speculative fiction is by far among my favorite novels that I've read this year...

Brutally Violent With A Message

Callie and Sonya are on their way for a nice date night, when all of a sudden they are verbally assaulted by some men on the street. As the men got closer, the assault became physical and soon they are running for their lives. They discover that a message from the president is being broadcast nationwide and it's affecting men all over the country. How does it affect them? Will Callie and Sonya make it out alive? You'll have to read this short book to find out!

All of my horror loving friends that have read this have rated it fairly high. I love and trust them so when I saw this available in the Audiobook Boom! listing, I requested it right away. And now, here we are.

Incredibly graphic and violent, while at the same time kind of hilarious, C.V. Hunt has worked some magic here. A somewhat derisive view of the president and politics in general is worked into the story as well. It's not in your face, but it's there and that's just fine with me. In a world where we shame rape victims for speaking out, where we often treat the perpetrators as young men who just <i> made a mistake</i>, <spoiler>I enjoyed this story where women finally triumph over that culture. </spoiler>

I listened to this on audio and I admit it took me a while to get used to the narrator. It must have been difficult for her at times, because as I said above there are some incredibly brutal scenes here. I gained respect as the story unwound and ended up enjoying her quite a bit.

Brutal, tongue in cheek, (and in many other places in this story), violent, graphic, and with an eye toward our current political environment, COCKBLOCK, is original, imaginative, sarcastic, and has a clear vision of what it wants to say. The only question that remains is are you brave enough to hear it?

Highly recommended to those horror fans who can handle brutal violence and rape.

*Thanks to the narrator and to Audiobook Boom! for the audio of this novella in exchange for my honest feedback. This is it!*

Difficult but important

As a straight, white and male American raised in a religious household, I found this book difficult to listen to and difficult to review.

As the father of a little girl, women’s safety and feminist objectives are important to me. As the father of a gay teen, LGBTQ equality is important to me. As a liberal in a conservative state and country, democratic law and social consciousness is important to me.

Due to all of the above, listening to and understanding Cockblock was important to me. I recommend this story (but it’s not for the squeamish or those easily offended).

What. A. Book.

I have never read a book by Grindhouse Press or by C.V. Hunt – so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. It was an insane book that I enjoyed deeply. Even a book as short as this was able to tell the story it wanted to while also invoking the emotions and feelings that Hunt wanted to.

At the center of this story is the controversy and insanity that is the current Presidency. You can tell that Hunt wanted to tell a story that at its heartfelt crazy and out of the blue – but when you read the whole thing and get into the characters you realize that it’s not that far off.

A radio broadcast seems to send every man into a madness. It makes them want to go out and assault (edited from another word so Audible would let me post this) each and every girl that they come across.

Reading this as a feminist who has a strong dislike for President Trump made it a lot easier. I’m sure that this book will find its way into the hands of a Trumpeter or a misogynist and they will not like it. If you see/read any one-star reviews – I would bet it’s from a person like that.

A fair word of warning – this book is graphic. It needed to be – but it was graphic. Hunt told the story that she wanted to and did it in her way and I’m so glad she did. I don't always use the word trigger warning, but this one definitely has it for anyone who has been assaulted before.

Ramona Master read this book in a way that, honestly, I wasn't expecting but made it even better than I had hoped for. When you read a book first and then listen to the audiobook - you have a tone in your head for it - and most of the time it matches and when it doesn't - it can throw you off. Master's performance of this book definitely threw me, but in such a good way. I loved that she gave the character a real voice and that every aggressive scene was voiced with passion. I requested a review copy of this book which has not affected my review in any way.
