About this listen

This psychological thriller follows a family to their Appalachian farmhouse where they encounter an unimaginable horror.

In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia.

Along with his wife and teenage daughter, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south. They are initially seduced by the natural beauty of the country setting. That soon changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes.

Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose.

This 1990s horror novel is perfect for fans of family thriller books, stories of demonic possession, exorcism fiction, the occult, or thrillers like The Exorcist, A Head Full of Ghosts, and The Amityville Horror.

A New Fan!!!

Wow... what a fabulous story! This is now on the top list of my favorites. This book grabbed my attention right out of the gate and held me all the way to the end. Honestly, I was sad it was over. This left me wanting more!
The narrator was absolutely brilliant 👏 When the demon voice started, it scared the sh#t out of me! Great production and character building. I was definitely invested in each character, except the evil entity, of course.
If you're a fan of horror, suspense, mystery, and damn good storytelling, this is the one for you! And I'm thrilled to say.... I recently won a signed copy. Woo-hoo! 😁

Big expectations, mild disappointment

I was excited to experience this book based on rave reviews from horror fans. I went in fully prepared to be scared silly, but it was just... kind of flat. There wasn't really any character development to speak of, it was predictable at times, and some of the "scary" bits felt a bit silly. I may be desensitized, but I just didn't find it as scary as I was hoping it would be. I enjoyed listening to it, but I was left unsatisfied.

Kept me on edge the entire time!!
The narrator did an amazing job narrating the book.
I’m Not sure if there is a second book about the aftermath but if there’s not I would love the author to write one! This The ending of this book left me on pins and needles!

Attention grabbing

Just your run of the mill basic exorcist story, and that is why I loved it!

VINTAGE HORROR IS BACK!

Buy it! You wont be disappointed. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. One never wants a good book to end. The storyline was kind of typical, but not in a bad way. I mean EVIL has an identity. Rotten smells, voices, appearances are all apart of the typical demonic storyline. The book has a twist and I am sure you will pickup on it! I wont be the spoiler. This twist leaves you wanting more.

Scary stuff!

The narrator voice changes were just chilling! Great plot. I feel a part 2 should be in our future. And I’m here for it. Scary stuff, this story was!

Spooky

When Nora and Daniel move to an old farmhouse in the country, they each have their reasons for wanting to work on their family. What they don’t suspect is that the house will be the biggest challenge their family faces yet.

After seeing so many rave reviews about this book, I hopped on the opportunity to be an audiobook reviewer. What interested me about the story is the way the author wrote them so full of flaws very early on. It made them easier to connect to. Not only that, it was a good twist to see those very flaws helping to move the story forward.

The entire book has a very suspenseful, creepy atmosphere. While I’ve found that books about possession tend to have a similar idea as far as plot goes, this one derived from the standard. There were some elements Nick added that were unique such as the flashlight cross and the way the demon controls those around it.

The ending was spectacular and gives me the hope that a book two will come in the future.

Narration was phenomenal when it came to punching up the spook factors.

All in all, if you’re a fan of The Exorcist, The Omen, or Paranormal Activity, I think you’ll love this book.
