Publisher's summary

Humans have achieved something no other species has ever experienced: the ability to live in a state of constant comfort. Our bodies are still hard-wired for coping with intense physical and environmental challenge — from famine to extreme temperatures.

But our comfortable lifestyles never exercise these hard-wired systems. This is killing us.

Every contemporary metabolic disease and immune dysfunction can be linked to this tragic physiological mismatch. Dancing with Darwin describes a distinct whole-body approach to confront this modern health crisis. One by one, Steven J. Saltzman, M.D. explains how to restore cellular oxygen levels and use simple “challenge therapies” to re-awaken ancient metabolic activities. He reveals the missing links, unpacks the established science, and clearly explains each integrative therapy to restore health and invigorate athletic performance. His practical advice empowers diverse groups, ranging from those with complex health challenges to elite performance athletes.
