Publisher's summary

READ BY THE AUTHOR HIMSELF! Stuart MacBride who read his previous book for HarperAudio ‘Blind Eye’ was a complete success and we have no doubt that this will be another triumph by MacBride. With his ability to set the scene and goings on of Detective Sergeant Logan McRae this is a must have audiobook.

Richard Knox has served his time, so why shouldn’t he be allowed to live wherever he wants? Yes, in the past he was a violent rapist, but he’s seen the error of his ways. Found God. Wants to leave his dark past in Newcastle behind him and make a new start.

Or so he says.

Detective Sergeant Logan McRae isn’t exactly thrilled to be part of the team helping Knox settle into his new Aberdeen home. He’s even less thrilled to be stuck with DSI Danby from Northumbria Police – the man who put Knox behind bars for ten years – supposedly here to ‘keep an eye on things’.

Only things are about to go very, very wrong.

Edinburgh gangster Malk the Knife wants a slice of the development boom Donald Trump’s golf course is bringing to the Granite City, whether local crime lord Wee Hamish Mowat likes it or not. Three heavies from Newcastle want a ‘quiet word’ with DSI Danby about a missing mob accountant. And Richard Knox’s dark past isn’t done with him yet…

Brilliant!

All of Aberdeen’s talent wrapped up in one package by the author/narrator.
I cringed, laughed out loud and was on the edge of my seat wanting more.
Logan, Steele and biohazard Bob came to life in a ever shifting snowfall of agony, twists, office politics and at times, riotous ribbing.
Well done Stuart let’s have more please.

Another one in a great series

Oh, Logan, get your act together! LOL I love this series and the characters. But after everything that's happened to DS McRae lately he needs to come to terms with it all and get back to "normal." Whatever normal is. The violence is gory (not as much as in the previous book) and there's a bit of it. There's also a lot of humor and that's one of the things I like about these books.

A great story, well narrated by the author. I didn't care for the dramatic music at the beginning and end though.

Bad narration

Where does Dark Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It doesn't rank at all

Would you be willing to try another one of Stuart MacBride’s performances?

I did and was quite disappointed. I really like this series however not with Mr. MacBride presenting.

Not my cup of tea

Could not find one sympathetic character with whom to identify. Steele in particular is a caricature. Judging from their language, everybody has a scatological fixation— with the possible exception of Samantha. Just couldn’t figure out why I was trying to get through it since it didn’t seem to be making me a smarter, happier, or better informed person. MacBride is an excellent narrator—I mean that sincerely.

This series cracks me up

The story lines are good in this series, but the hook is really the funny characters and dialog. I've listened to 4 now and yet to be disappointed. Can be a little gritty at times, so not for those who prefer "clean and proper", but if you don't mind an R rating, definitely good stuff,

Stuart MacBride

I have enjoyed listening to the books by Stuart MacBride and was surprised that he was narrating his own book. He did a wonderful job and made it a very enjoyable listen.

Weakest LM novel so far but still enjoyable.

Stuart MacBride does a commendable job narrating. For an author, he ranks amongst the top of those performing their own work. Still prefer Worsley. This was my least favorite of the series so far. But I’m not saying I didn’t like it. Don’t regret the credit or the time spent. Besides being a little frustrated and feeling like I needed more from the ending, I have no complaints. And will read more of MacBride and his LM series.

Skip this one

The story is not nearly as exciting as previous books in this series. Except for its continual characterful development and advancement of the personal story line, I would say Skip this one.

another good book in this series

an adult police procedure covering a lot of dark issues with some truly evil characters and some flawed characters who are always trying to redeem themselves and it often made me wonder why they aren't just quitting their jobs and moving on but onward and upward
