About this listen

Was the biggest case of his career the worst mistake he ever made?

Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed "Mister Whisper", earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process.

Now, he spends his days working in Glasgow's Major Investigations Team, and his nights reliving the horrors of what he saw.

And what he did.

When another child disappears a hundred miles north in the Highlands, Jack is sent to lead the investigation and bring the boy home.

But as similarities between the two cases grow, could it be that Jack caught the wrong man all those years ago?

And, if so, is the real Mister Whisper about to claim his fourth victim?

A Litter of Bones is the explosive debut crime thriller novel from JD Kirk, an exciting new voice in Scottish crime fiction.

5 star - great story with a few unexpected laughs

Haven’t written a review in a while and this is my only 5atar rating for this year,2021. Great narration - voice, tone, different character voices and the occasion funny interaction between characters which only makes the characters more real. Great story with twist too. Just what I had been looking for all year.

Excellent book

Good story, extra ordinary narration. Having said that, the Irish/Scottish accent may make it hard for some listeners to understand the narrative. I had to slow it down to .9 to catch everything.
But- - the narrator is so damn good at the accents and different voices for different characters, it made it a pleasure to listen to, even if I sometimes had to concentrate on the dialogue.
The story/plot was exceptional - I didn’t figure out the bad guy till the very end.
I have never read a JD Kirk before, but I will going forward.

Story good, hard to understand

Being American (southern) it was a bit difficult to catch all the dialogue.
The story was good, the reader was good.

Forgot it as soon as I finished it

So, this book kept my interest while I was reading it. I like police stories and it was definitely a decent one. The narration was good, accent easy to understand for my American ears. However, I forgot it as soon as I read it. I purchased it on sale and if the sequels were also on sale I would buy them but I wouldn't waste a credit on it.

Dull and hard to listen to

The story is very slow moving and dull. The reader gets hard to understand and the recording volume is so low you have to have earphones to hear it well enough to have a fighting chance at deciphering what the reader is saying.

Love the narrator.

Interesting story set in the Scottish Highlands. The narrator helps to make the story since he’s a Scotsman through and through. Good suspense with twists and red herrings. Great character development.

Super Good

I just finished another book that was really similar in style to this one. I guess you would call it a detective procedural. This one was so much better.

I listened to this one and the narrator was fantastic.

I've never read a crime story set in Scotland, the atmosphere was really cool.

I loved DCI Logan, his tenacity, and all of his cop friends he finds through the journey.

The story was twisted and I'm definitely going to read the next installment.
