Publisher's summary
2022 Audible’s Best in Fantasy
The living cannot be allowed to infect the dead.
Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adam’s beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be.
Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions. Demons are hungry, and ghosts are relentless, and what awaits Adam in the underworld is nothing he is prepared to face.
If that weren’t enough, Adam has one more thing he must do if he and Vicente are to return to the world of the living: find the lost heart of Death herself.

Story
When Phoebe, goddess of the moon, is killed by the knights of the sun god, Hyperion, all who follow her are branded heretics. With Phoebe gone, the souls of the dead are no longer ferried to the underworld, and instead linger on as shades who feast on the blood of the living. Raef is a child of the night. He lives in the shadows, on scraps, eking out a meager existence as a thief. But when an ornate box is sequestered in the Temple of Hyperion, the chance of a big score proves too great to resist. What he finds within propels him on an odyssey across the sea and back again.

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. When he isn't terrorising his enemies, he's plotting inside his castle, which is built on top of lightless chasms filled with nameless horrors and beings of a generally malevolent and megalomaniacal nature. A thousand years have passed since a dragon has been seen in the world. Science and technology have replaced magic, which has dwindled until it has become little more than an element of myth and legend. There are those who still have dragon blood flowing through their veins, distant descendants of the mighty creatures of old. These rare humans have the power to cast magic, the power to heal, and the power to craft alchemical weapons capable of starting wars...or ending them.

Featured Article: Best of the Year—The 12 Best Fantasy Listens of 2022
Between film, television, literature, and audio—2022 could easily be proclaimed the Year of the Fantasy, much to the delight of fans among us. But when it came to picking the best of the best, the glut of fantastic content also significantly increased the CR (challenge rating). This year’s winner edged ahead of the rest thanks to its atmospheric, suck-you-in (pun intended) audio experience, but every performance on this list transported us.

Christopher Golden's Ararat is the heart-pounding tale of an adventure that goes wrong - on a biblical scale. When an earthquake reveals a secret cave hidden inside Mount Ararat in Turkey, a daring, newly engaged couple are determined to be the first ones inside...and what they discover will change everything. The cave is actually a buried ancient ship that many quickly come to believe is Noah's Ark. When a team of scholars, archaeologists, and filmmakers make it inside the ark, they discover an elaborate coffin in its recesses.

Austin Romero: No one's fast enough to outrun grief. Trust me, I've tried. I ran away from the city and took a job as the lead detective back in my old home town of Blue Creek, New Hampshire. I expected to bump into past ghosts, but I never expected those ghosts to reopen old wounds. The biggest ghost of them all: Charlie Marsh. He was the man who had stolen my heart when we were teens, and who now couldn't even remember a single day we had spent together. Which makes it exceptionally awkward when he becomes my first client.

Sleepless nights between day jobs were spent writing rock ballads and trying to make a name for myself. That all changed with one phone call that forced me to return to Atlanta. Needing consistent income to pay the mountain of debt I'd come home to, I traded stripping my soul for stripping my clothes. Then Archer West comes crashing into my VIP room, tempting me to break all of my rules.

Moving to the big city of Powell's Point to share an apartment with his best friend is exactly what he needs. It feels like the best time to set down some roots and get into a routine...and maybe, just maybe find love.

All the Yassss
What a ride these three books have been. The concept of stretching what little you have in a main character in such a fantastical setting is a pretty creative way to go. I also love how the titles of each book can be seen as derogatory, but are pretty subversive to Adam himself, save this last book, yeah that guy is a deadbeat druid lol.
I loved that this was such a fantastical story that dealt with love, redemption, family, and so much more. Adam is a fantastic conduit for these themes throughout the book and I was immersed in his relationships and dramas (oohhh that live angle between a certain elf and a police officer ouuuwee what sweet drama).
Anyway, treat yourself to this series, it’s pretty epic and grounded ;)

So satisfying ❤️
I binged listened to all three books and it was so amazing. The story, the mystery, and the love was just right for me and honestly the only series to keep my interest. Good job to everyone involved with this masterpiece.

Good conclusion
I loved this series from beginning to end. The main character was amazingly well written, I was halfway in love with him almost from the start.

Intriguing Premise
I enjoyed this series. Interesting characters, enough plot twist to keep it moving through 3 books, and a lot of character growth even among the minor characters.
Well written, nice performance by the reader, this set may be one I listen to at least a second time.

So Good!
Deadbeat Druid is an awesome conclusion to the trilogy and Michael Axtell's narration is excellent.

Amazing Series
Not what I expected
Wasn’t sure what to expect when I started listening to the first book but I was hooked and glad I did!! All three books are amazing, so was the performance! If you love books about magic this is a must.

This series….
The story is unique, extremely well written and interesting on its own but add in that narration and it really is amazing! The narrator did such a great job bringing this book and Adam Binder’s world to life!

Excellent conclusion
Very well performed and story flowed well. Fans of the series know what you are getting and won’t be disappointed. My complaint is that it ended. I wanted the audio book to just go on telling me more stories about the Binder Clan.
