Publisher's summary

When a young mother is found murdered in a derelict Eugene neighborhood - and her terrified young son is discovered hiding beneath the floorboards - Detective Jackson reluctantly takes the case. His own life is already in chaos, with his runaway teenage daughter, Katie, still gone and his girlfriend, Kera, facing her own family crisis. Matters get more complicated when the orphaned boy bonds with Jackson, triggering unexpected emotions and compromising his ability to investigate. Meanwhile, Detective Evans, one of Jackson’s most valuable colleagues, is pulled off the case to look into the death of a University of Oregon football star - leaving the homicide task force shorthanded. As Jackson works to solve the murder and find a home for little Benjie, he soon faces devastating choices that threaten everything he holds dear.

Great reading

Got into Wade Jackson novels not too long ago, narration makes it easy to get into books quicker and makes the work day go by easier.

I enjoyed this police procedural!

Deadly Bonds is book #9 of this 11 book Detective Wade Jackson series by L.J Sellers. After book #3 the author changed narrators to Patrick Lawlor which was a positive move. Of the five books in the series to which I have listened this one and Dying for Justice are my favorites. Deadly Bonds is about a murder case that becomes very personal for Jackson because it directly involves Katie his wayward daughter who is in her late teens, his brother, the woman he loves, and the three year boy he is likely to adopt.

The novels in the series are set in Eugene, Oregon the home of the state university. I still do not understand why so many police procedural and modern detective mysteries are written by Oregon female authors and why most are terrific.

Just read my full review!!!

Ok. I’ve made it to book nine only because it’s free with kindle unlimited to be an Audible book other wise I wouldn’t have touched this series. Seriously. I was frustrated with the main character for how he treated the girlfriend he is supposed to love but basically and eventually cheats on but always puts Work first. Then his kid is kidnaped and guess what... he still puts being a detective first. F***ing stupid!!! I could tolerate this series for audible while I do normal house work and my sewing but now it’s just stupid! And how convenient is it that Jackson’s case and that Evans cases magically always link together... come on get more creative would ya?!?! I won’t be finishing this series or anything else from this L. j. Sellers. Just not creative enough and talks about pointless things. I pay attention thinking it will have a future reference.... half the time nope just making words to have a longer book... BLAH

sellers tells a gripping compelling story

What made the experience of listening to Deadly Bonds the most enjoyable?

I found the story to be compelling, there were enough twists, and turns to keep the story fresh. The story was gripping, little Benjie daughter Katie, and Jackson's tough decisions kept things boiling.

What did you like best about this story?

I am a sucker for police stories, and this one kept me on the edge of my seat because it was unpredictable.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Benjie plunged the eppi pen into Buckley. That was a clever plot twist.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Here is justice being served in a delightful, and satisfying way

Very interesting and emotional detective novel

Good character development, incidences and clues start this story off in a couple directions. Through diligent investigative work by a couple of dedicated, caring detectives, seemingly unconnected pieces start filling in the puzzle. Physical, mental and especially emotional burdens push the detectives to solve the cases and discover themselves in the process.

The narrator does a great job in bending his voice for the dialogue of each character.
