About this listen

Defiance Passage is the sixth book of the series: The Underground Book Readers. This Christian series takes children, ages nine and older, into a futuristic world where there are no parents, schools, or churches. Books and Bibles are banned. Any child or teen caught with books or other forbidden materials, or anyone who met regularly with others living not in their own households, were taken to work camps or to the military training camps. There are no calendars, clocks, electronics, cars, power, or fuel of any kind. The kids in the story do not know the date or time nor are they certain of their own ages.

In this futuristic world, a group of teens and preteens find each other and hide deep in the caverns of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The original four members had been meeting for several years. They established their own rules to protect and help each other and to study as much as possible. They search abandoned homes and schools and discover books and establish their own library in a hidden cavern. Once a week, they had their own church services and share Bibles, hymns, and Bible stories. They must go to a food rations station each day for an allotment of food and water. While in line, they spot other children and teens, and later discuss the idea that other teens are lurking in the mountains and woods.

In book six, Defiance Passage, The Underground Book Readers continue their quest to the free land. Traveling through the thick woods of the mountains in Virginia, they follow the rivers running through the valleys below. Stormy skies and cooler weather challenge their travel. Each day they risk being discovered by World Force soldiers and others lurking in the forest. Along the way, they discover mysterious people and new places they didn’t expect to visit. Did Kahn, Leena, and the group make a wrong turn? Are they lost? Will they escape the World Force and find the free land? Follow the adventures of The Underground Book Readers who are determined to find a territory free of the control of the World Force.
