Great story, and hard to turn off.

Descending Dawn is the first book I have read from EW Roberts. I must say I have become a fan. Between the storyline and the narration by Lisa (which is on point), I could not turn this book off. I enjoyed the scattered foreshadowing that Robert tells in the story. It makes you, or It made me want to keep reading. He gives you a picture of what the future will be like in allows the reader to understand that this is The beginning of a long journey, and it’s time to get invested. It just makes you want to come back for more. I enjoy how the plots and storylines are nicely wrapped up and executed, as well as other wrap-ups leave you saying, “Oh dang.”
I look forward to the next ones.

PS I listen to all my books at 2X speed, which brings out the accents and tones of the book better for me. This added to Lisa’s narration being on point. There were times that I realized it wasn’t multiple people speaking but just Lisa's great choice for narration

A different vampire book.

This was a different take than normal vampire books. The vampire are outted to the world. I would have given 5 stars all around, but the readers Java a dead voice. And at times soused like reading from the bottom of a barrel.

Good but missing something important

I actually enjoyed this book. The heroine was smart and only had one Too Stupid To Live decision but it was necessary for plot development. I did not feel a connection to the supporting characters because the heroine didn’t like anyone. Story is first person so if the main character has a general dislike of everything and everyone- it takes away from experiencing the story emotionally. That was a big absence for me. I got to the end and decided I would live without knowing a few things because this character shows no evidence of emotional range.

A who-dun-it with Vampires!

I like reading stories written in first person and I enjoyed the character of Iliana Dawn as a strong female. Police officers having to deal live with crime in an age where vampires live side-by-side with regular people? Done quite well and interesting enough for me to immediately listen to it a second time. Character development was done well, the weaving of back stories (clues!) and action was great to listen to and, as another reviewer said, the narration by Lisa Negron was on point.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, recommend it, and look forward to reading/hearing Volume Two whenever it comes out.

Exciting, Intriguing, and Suspenseful

Iliana Dawn is a police detective and hates vampires with a passion. Although they are legal in Georgia, they are still not wanted by all. Detective Dawn is a fierce woman with a gun and a strong maternal instinct. Becoming involved with a teen vampire while solving a crime, her life takes a drastic and deadly turn.

The author, E.W. Roberts creates a world of vampires. Some are struggling to remain anonymous; some want to fit in, and then you have the ones who feel entitled and will step on anyone in their way. Each character is essential to the story. The storyline flows smoothly with a strong backstory, character development is solid, and lots of action. I enjoyed learning more about Iliana Dawn and the inner workings that make her such a strong character.

The Narrator, Lisa Negrόn provides a clear voice and perfects the attitude of Officer Dawn perfectly. She kept the story flowing smoothly and flawlessly. She leaves the listener on the edge of their chair as she builds the appropriate emotion – hate, anger, love, disinterest. The change of emotion is amazing, and she does an excellent job for the audience.

This is one of those rare horror books where you get what you do not expect and lots of suspense. I cannot wait for the next book!

Disappointing

I was suckered in by an Instagram description of this book.
The main caricatures are flat, the dialogue is robotic. So much useless information just to fill space. I could skip hole chapters and not miss anything. The humor was humorless.
The narrator is unexciting.
best to pass on this one.
