He stopped a robbery. Now he has to do the right thing.

Another good book in this series!

Don't Catch Me is the second book in the McCabe Brothers series but can easily be enjoyed as a standalone story.

Chase is on his way to meet with his family when he walks in on what appears to be a robbery. His career as an aid to a congressman is over and he hasn't yet decided what he wants to do next. When he discovers that the robber is really a young girl he can't just walk away and decides to stay and help.

Rose was a witness to what happened but she is reluctant to help. Due to things in her past she needs to stay out of the spotlight but Chase is having none of that; he needs her to talk about what she saw so he can help the girl.

This is a relatively short book so things happen quickly with the romance between Chase and Rose but that doesn't bother me like it does some readers. I actually love this length of audiobook because it's one that I can usually finish in one day while doing household chores. The story is an interesting one and kept my attention throughout. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

About the narration: This is the second book I've listened to by Jaclynn Elfring (aka Jaclynn Michelle Elfring) and I have sort of a love/hate relationship with her narration. She does some of the best voices, especially the male ones, that I've heard in an audio book. The problem is that her phrasing/vocal inflections kind of drive me nuts. The sample on Audible is from the beginning of the book and doesn't really give a good example of what I'm talking about. I'm not bothered enough by her phrasing to not listen to more books she narrates but I just can't raise my rating above 3 stars yet. I'm hoping she gets better as she narrates more books.

A review copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Another winner in the series

This series is about four foster brothers who are still dealing with feelings of abandonment when their foster mother left them with a father that was struggling with his own demons. Now as adults, we are introduced to each of them.
Since I really enjoyed the audiobook of the first book in this series, Don’t Stop Me, I decided to give this one a try. This one is just as good.
Chase has always been the “fixer” and when he stops at a gas station on his way to Nevada for a family reunion, he comes upon what appears to be a robbery. One involving a teenager with a gun. But it isn’t what it seems, and when Chase realizes the girl is a foster child in a bad situation, he is determined to help her. Little did he know that that action would change his life forever.
The engaging plot with complex characters will keep your interest from the beginning .
Another winner by this talented author.

Chase

Even though this is book 2 of The McCabe Brothers series, it can be read as a standalone. I didn’t read book 1 and was able to follow the story without any problems. This book was so good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jaclynn Elfring did a good job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Chase the Fixer

This is book 2 of the series and is about the second McCabe brother, Chase. He is a lawyer and the brother who took care of his brothers. He had a need to fix everything for everybody. He gets a welcome surprise after dealing with chaos when he stops for gas. I liked Rose and Billy- Jean. The McCabe family is functionally dysfunctional.

Fast Progressing Relationship

I was surprised that with both the audiobook and the ebook, you get the bonus of "A McCabe Reunion". I both read and listened to this book.

I could not help but feel for Billie Jo. I can't imagine, especially as a child, being in a position where untrustworthy adults have complete control over you and your life. I thought the writer did an excellent incumbent the mistrust, the fear, and anger of Bilie Jo.

I was so glad that Chase stuck with her. The entire situation, while suspenseful, left me feeling hopeful. I had to admire his commitment.

Some aspects of the situation with Billie Jo and Rose were somewhat implausible. Not because they could never happen, but just with the speed the incidents occurred. I wish there had been more detail about the sheriff's interaction with the foster father, what happened with Ross's ex, some information about Billie Jo's issues with the foster family, etc. In all honesty, I don't know if Chase ever got Billie Jo's full story.

Chase and Ross's relationship happened ridiculously fast. It didn't even feel like instalove. It was we are strangers. The court thing happened. The house thing happened. Suddenly, a relationship. I don't feel like there was enough interaction for them to know if they liked one another.

I still felt like the story was not finished in that there were things left unanswered. Although there was no definitive cliffhanger, it still feels like I was left hanging a little.

The narration was ok. It didn't particularly stand out. I believe I would have liked it better if there had been a male and female narrator. I bought the ebook, but I voluntarily listened to and reviewed the audiobook provided by the author.
