Publisher's summary

"Extraordinarily entertaining and innovative." (Orson Scott Card, author of Ender's Game)

A perilous quest, to find the missing king, and win the heart of a beautiful princess. What could possibly go wrong?

Edrik, son of the murdered Drake regent, never gained his dragon magic and cannot shapeshift into his dragon form. Unfit to marry his love, the Princess Lissara, Edrik embarks on a dangerous mission to prove himself worthy. He seeks Lissara's missing father, the dragon king, before an enemy usurps the throne.

Unfortunately, the search for the king brings Edrik to a dungeon located in human territory. Inside the prison, Edrik discovers the missing king, whose captors are unaware of his true identity. Edrik must rely on a grubby young dungeon keeper to help them escape without disclosing that his companion is the dragon king. But the dungeon keeper has a secret identity as well, one that will change Edrik's destiny forever.

Super cute love story!

I was hooked right away and even though I figured out the first major twist right away I was delighted when I discovered I was right. Charming characters, interesting world. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Romance

Romantic adventure. Lots of conversations. Some action. Lots of drama. This is a bit mislabeled. it is focused on the guy and girls interaction. the adventure only happens while they struggle into romance.

Great Take On Dragons A Bit Too Much Romance

The world that the author is creating in this book is one where dragons have a human form and can "ascend" into dragon form. I thought the book started off a bit slow but it picks up around chapter 6. A bit too much romance for my liking but I stuck it out since I enjoyed the story overall. I thought the narrator did a good job of giving each character a distinct and compelling voice. However, the narrator did repeat lines but this only happens 2-4 times at most from what I remember, so it didn't affect the overall flow of the storyline. I think this series has potential and if you like dragons and romance I'd recommend it.

fantastic book fantastic narrator

I devoured this book nearly in one setting.IT is EXCELLENT!! I seriously don't have a single comment beyond that. Everything about it was well done, entertaining, imaginative and heart rending. and I typically dislike stories about dragons. You all should read this.

Delightful!

This was such an entertaining story! So many surprises and outstanding character and world development. The narration was so superb that when he read the credits at the end it jarred me a little to hear his real name as he was so convincing as the voice of the characters. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Excellent Concept and Storyline

I have to admit, I was confused at first trying to figure out who were dragons and who were people. I almost gave in frustration about 1/4 of the way through the book, because it wasn’t making any sense. Then the “secret” was revealed, and it was an absolutely brilliant concept. I don’t want to spoil it for any potential readers/listeners. There was another big twist in the story about 1/2 way through that I didn’t see coming either.
The action was great and full of movement. Parts of the story were predictable, but that did not ruin the it at all. There was enough originality that it holds its own place. I look forward to reading more from this author. Hopefully, the storyline will continue.
The narrator did a terrific job with all the characters and has a very pleasant voice. If you like dragons and battles, I would recommend this to you.

A different dragon story.

Dragon Ascending was a very entertaining book. It is a different dragon story, the dragons in this book can take human form or more accurately they can change from human form to dragon form which I have not seen very often in most other stories. The characters are very interesting especially Mudge. The story mainly follows the characters or Mudge and Edrick(Rolf). Mudge is a young dungeon keeper who is much different than you would expect. Edrick is a drake which is a dragon in their human form he is on a quest and has been imprisoned in Mudge's dungeon. They develop an interesting relationship along with the other prisoners of Grubbarch(Styg) and Finn(Other Dragon). An interesting journey soon ensues and their is quite a bit of action, romance, humor and danger. There is much more to it and quite a few surprise twists along the way but I don't want to give anything away.

I would definitely recommend the book it was very fun and entertaining. There is a bit more romance than some people might like but my main complaint with it is how oblivious some of the characters are to each others feelings but that is often the case in these types of stories. The narration of Christopher Duke was excellent and I really enjoyed his voice and accent, my only minor complaint is he takes a lot of deep breaths between sentences which if you actually notice and focus on can be distracting, but it really is minor and if you aren't OCD and don't zone in on it is almost not even noticeable.

Great story!

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish except for 1 thing. I wanted to smack a bit of sense into Mudge at times. It fit the story and is all part of growing up, but sometimes I felt it was a bit much on the whining. Besides that 1 thing, this is a great book! I would be interested in more from this world of dragons.

Captivating

This book was hard to put down. It had just enough surprises and unpredictable elements to make it an engaging read. It had an unusually different idea of dragons, and a very spunky heroine. If you are looking for something with romance, action, and unlike traditional fairytales, this would be a good choice.

Romance w/ Wonderful Take on Dragons- +16 read

I really liked how this book started... You're immediately dealing with them (dragons in human form) being thrown in a dungeon and dealing with a twisted dungeon master. It started much more like a fantasy adventure and about halfway through switched gears to a full out romance novel. I'm not complaining because I did really enjoy the book, but the lack of communication/misunderstandings between the two sometimes felt a little too constructed. I really loved adventure plot behind the romance and wanted to see that play out. Overall, it's was a very satisfying romance, dragon adventure and I would absolutely love to read the next book in the series goes.

***Parents: PG13 but suggests 16+ read- This book has some potentially triggering scenes to sexual assault victims. I honestly don't remember any bad language. In terms of violence there are several pretty bloody and graphic scenes surrounding dissections, wound treatment and fights, basically if you are squeamish this one may bother you. The romance side stays fairly tame, although, there is an attempted rape scene, and a sexual assault/murder attempt.

The narrator does a great job with the voices and differentiations - 3.5⭐. I just found the pace a bit slow but turning the speed up to 1.35x helped.
