Publisher's summary

A comedy about a time-travelling gardener, guaranteed to make you wet your plants!

Barry's been patient, but after 27 years of trimming hedges for people he hates, he's had enough. All he wants to do is to find his missing father and to discover his inner ninja. But life’s not done with throwing him curveballs. A fatal mistake catapults Barry into the adventure of a lifetime.

With talking hedges, samurai ghosts, meddling psychotherapists, and an inexplicably non-linear time pattern conspiring against him, Barry must do battle to save his hide, unleash the ninja within, and rescue his father from an ancient army, a dark sorcerer, and a raging inferno.

Perfect listening for fans of Tom Holt, Terry Pratchett, Robert Rankin, Christopher Moore, or Douglas Adams.

What is the mysterious Prophecy Allocation Department?

Where is The Before and After?

Even more importantly, Will Barry’s underwear hold out until he has saved the day?

A would be ninja with british accent

This is quite a surreal story, about a gardner, would be ninja, and his adventures.
The fun of the story is the british humor (sarcasm for some) and the british accent of the narrator telling us all about it. Hillarious!, in a very serious manner, of course! He (the narrator) makes a fantastic job (even if some words can be a bit difficult for non english listeners).
As for the story, though I like a bit of surreal, this one can be a bit of too lost sometimes (not exactly a bad thing, because it goes with the humor of it, but still...). In the end, even though this particular story fail to really grab my desire to read more of it (sorry), I still got the feeling the author is a good writer with the ability to express the kind of humor that goes in your head in secret.

Very Imaginative

This a a quirky and hilarious book! I found myself laughing so much on Barry’s crazy adventure. Escape From Samsara is definitely the book to pick up if you don’t mind an extremely out of the ordinary and off the walls book. The author has an amazing imagination to write this book and I’m excited and scared at the same time to see what happens next!
David did a great job narrating this book. He brought all of the characters to life, especially Barry, with his accent and sense of humor. I don’t know if any other voice actor could pull off this book!

English overweight time traveling ninja with IBS

The title for the review says it all. Like hitchhikers guide to the galaxy? Terry pratchet? Mel brooks? Shaun is the dead? Bruce lee? Then this is for you. If not steer clear. If you don’t mind taking a twisty turn through insanity to get to a very weird place with weird happening this is for you. Me I enjoyed the hell out of it. Weird and wonderful. Ridiculous and hilarious. All I can say is beware the underwear! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Escape from Samsara

This story is a fun and entertaining listen. When Barry's father and sister disappeared his life took a tailspin. Gardening is what Barry does now but it seems that there is evil out to get him and Barry must rely on the ninja training that his father gave him so many years ago. Barry and his mother have always wondered what happened to his father and sister and are soon in for a big surprise. Barry is taken on an adventure of a lifetime and must find and decipher the clues that will save his father and sister.

There are so many interesting characters in this story. From a heavy metal loving grandma to an evil wizard masquerading as a hippie hairdresser and so many more. The humor reminds me of Monty Python and Beetlejuice yet has a style all its own. If you enjoy British humor and many toilet and bowel jokes than you will enjoy this book. It moves along quickly and keeps your attention. The author has written a silly and strange fantasy that will make you laugh and enjoy this tall tale. This is a book for adults as it does contain some material that is not suitable for young ones. Narrator David Morley Hale does a good job of keeping this story flowing and pulling the listener into this eccentric and outlandish world.

Not for me

Not sure if it's the other world, dark comedy, fantasy, prophecy or all tossed together. I just wasn't able to get into this audible.

The narrator did a wonderful job.

Samsara

Hmmn..It is an absurd, sometimes fun, gross, and always weird story.David Morley Hales excellent narration is the best thing about it. It is very hard to rate. I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Good narration

I have to be honest and say I did not enjoy this story that much. I felt it was a bit choppy and hard to follow. I did enjoy the reader and felt he delivered the story well and made it enjoyable to follow along. I think I would have enjoyed this less if I had been reading it.

Scifi humor and sarcastic wit with a British slant

This book was the perfect break from serious scifi stories. Understanding British humor is required.

Escape from Samsara

Not quite what I was expecting... in general I found the story interesting, but there were a few parts that just didn’t sit well with me (the BDSM scene being one of them).

The narration was very well done, and definitely enhanced the story.
