Publisher's summary

Karia can barely stand to be around herself, never mind others. She has been confined to the Aerie, until after the birth of her child, but there are limits to what she can do to pass the time.

Mitchell understands, although there is little he can do about it. He doesn’t have the time to deal with her moods and needs.

Erin remembers what it was like for her when she had carried Karia, but the requirements of her position with the new inhabitants of Tantalus, due to Karia’s pregnancy, is taking up every moment she has to spare.

Only one, Alena, seems to know what to do to soothe her granddaughter as she enters the final stages of her pregnancy. She enters the room, sits by Karia’s chair, and begins to speak, “Let me tell you of a very young Tantalarian girl, a handsome young Tantalarian Guardian and the love they shared.”

Bridge to the next story arc

*Some spoilers* This book appears to be a bridge to the next story arc, from the Earth settlers on Mars coming to Tantalus and the changes this will bring. There were 2 issues related to the Arc Royal, along with the growing human population. We also know that matings occurred between Scribes and Guardians which will be revealed further.
The primary storyline starts with the birth of Karia and Mitchel’s daughter. In helping Karia during labor, her grandmother distracts her by telling Karia about the love stories of the 3 generations before.
We learn of the loss of Alena’s Trysuil; and of the Tribunal Elders’ Filium; and the conflicts that arose when they weren’t allowed the love of their natural mates.
Alena gets a big surprise from the Phoenixes; and they actively give direction on who they want in charge going forward in the upcoming times of change.
Callanan’s voice really works for this series.

What a fantastic audio

This a short novella that will have you hooked like all the others have . This story is about Karia and Michael and the future that they will have shape They are having a daughter and the daughter decides to make herself known in the world . You get to learn about Karia parents and grandparents and what a hard time they had getting together. Meanwhile Michael will need to find a way to make room from all the extra humans that will be arriving soon .

Brian Callahan was great as he always is in the audio books His voice is smooth , strong and expressive.

Great short story!

All of this author’s story are awesome and very entertaining. This author has a wonderful imagination and I highly recommend this book It might be short but it is still very entertaining.
The narrator does a spectacular job on distinguishing between the characters voices and the accents.

a whole lot packed into 2 hours

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I liked that you get even more background on some of the characters in the Tantalus series, and I get that this is supposed to be a transition story. My biggest complaint is that the author really crammed a lot into 2 hours. It is almost overwhelming and came across as a little bit...unfinished, to me. The narration is well done, though, and the content was still very interesting. All in all, it is worth checking out if you are a fan of the series.

Nice added story

This is the fifth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I will listen to every book in this series. I am loving the worlds M.A. Abraham has created. This is a great addition to the Tantalus Series.

I like how we learn the backstory of Karia’s mother and grandmother’s relationships. It gives us insight into the reasons and progression of the social structure on Tantalus all neatly tied together with Karia’s labour and delivery.

This is the eighth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Brian Callanan) and I would listen to another. He does an incredible job of delivering the story, as well as all the emotion and humor that goes with it.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

ENTERTAINING!

Very entertaining story packed with all sorts of stuff.
Grab a drink, get comfy on the sofa, and enjoy.

It's complicated but not too hard to follow. It's about children, love, the so many flaws of "man," and all the craziness that comes with it.
I really enjoyed this novella, and thought it was written very well and loved the narration.
All around, great job.
I was entertained throughout, and have a couple more in the series in my library to get to.
Enjoy! :)

Times a Changin'

This is a very short novella but there was just so much happening within. Karia and Mitchell's daughter has decided to come out but that was not the only surprise that M.A. had for us in this book. I do not know what to call the line the Tribunal Elder has made but it is strong and powerful. We finally get to know the back story of Eins' parents, Karia's mom, and also Alena's, Erin's mother, back story as well.

The whole line is amazing and I loved the little side stories that are occurring but they will all interconnect. I am super excited to hear more from the new character and I am also looking forward to reading about what the Tribunal Elder feels about the new guest.

SN: I still think that humans are plan awful. We will never learn. The fact there is a group of people dominating over another group of people is horrible. Everyone that came from Earth are all supposed to be equal but yet there is always a way for certain people to treat others like they do not matter.

Should have listened to the previous books

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. It was a good book, just feel that I should have listened to the previous books first in order to appreciate the series. All the names in this book gave me a headache trying to figure out who they were in relationship to the story. Although you could consider this a stand alone, it really wasn't. The narrator did a good job with the story and the characters.

Forbidden but so right

I enjoyed this short story, a look into the past where the followers of the Tantalus series get more background on some of the characters. Lessons learned from the past and changes for a better future are needed, luckily the new counsel is open minded. The usual twists we come to expect from the author are there making this an enjoyable read, same as the rest of the series.
It was great when I read it, but listening to it told by Mr. Callanan brought it to a whole new level of enjoyment. Love the voices he gave the characters, the passion he put in his every word. Looking forward to listen to the next one.
