About this listen
From Western word-slinger and anthropologist W. Michael Gear comes the sequel to the best-selling contemporary apocalyptic Western, Dissolution.
Lauren Davis is closing on her 21st birthday when a cyberattack leads to the collapse of the American banking system. On the advice of her boyfriend, a special forces lieutenant, she is told to flee Colorado Springs and make her way to Tappan Ranch in Wyoming. As the country continues to fall apart, Lauren and Randy Howman, a co-worker at her bank, make their way through the Colorado Rockies.
On the advice of Tiffany Bishop, an old friend in Laramie, Lauren goes to work with an old boyfriend, Mike Vinich, providing FEMA provisions to refugees housed on a ranch outside of Cheyenne. There, she runs supplies to the outposts being established along the Wyoming/Colorado line—what Governor Agar calls The Fourth Quadrant. When a riot breaks out and Mike is shot, Lauren ends up being called a hero. But fame comes at a great personal cost, and Lauren’s demons are closing in.
Pulled from duty along the Fourth Quadrant, and with Mike in a coma, Lauren learns of a raid on Laramie. There, she is taken hostage along with a busload of school children. With nothing left to lose, and nothing to live for, Lauren is forced to make one last gamble....

Story
Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Story
When a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States, Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their compound. They had everything they needed. They were armed and highly trained. But then, Barb was kidnapped. The kidnappers didn’t know why Conor was known as The Mad Mick. They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy underworld of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal. But they would soon find out.

When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

One thousand years in the future, the zyme, a thick blanket of luminous green slime, covers the oceans. Glaciers three-miles-high rise over the continents. The old stories say that when the Jemen, godlike beings from the past, realized their efforts to halt global warming had gone terribly wrong, they made a desperate gamble to save life on earth and recreated species that had survived the worst of the earth's Ice Ages. Sixteen-summers-old Lynx and his best friend Quiller are members of the Sealion People - archaic humans known as Denisovans.

Story
Akart's standalone novel, ARkStorm, is based on actual events. In 1861, a 43-day series of atmospheric rivers, huge flows of moisture carried from the tropics to the West Coast, turned large swaths of California into an inland sea. The intense rainstorms pounded the state unabated with little respite. Rivers became raging torrents that swept away entire communities, killing thousands. The State’s Central Valley turned a massive body of water 300-miles long and 20-miles wide.

Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

Story
In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Then the FBI comes after Ashley for embezzlement, and Dillon knows he must protect her from a killer and prove she's being framed. Taking her on a hair-raising run through dangerous terrain barely fazes him. But wanting her for more than just one night scares the hell out of him.

Story
The Superpox-99 virus has wiped out nearly the entire human race. Governments have collapsed. Cities have become graveyards filled with unspeakable horror. People have resorted to scavenging from the dead, or taking from the living. The entire industrialized world has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, decaying bodies, and feral animals. To stay alive, U.S. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must forage for food, water, and gasoline while outgunning those who seek to take advantage of the apocalyptic anarchy. Together with his giant Irish wolfhound, Bowie, he aligns with survivors of the town of Boone in a life and death struggle against a gang of violent criminals. With each deadly encounter, Mason is force to accept his place as one of the nation's few remaining lawmen. In a world now populated by escaped convicts, paranoid mutants, and government hit squads, his only hope to save the townspeople is to enforce his own brand of frontier justice.

the audible version makes a strong play to taketh thriller to the next level Micki Fuhrman does a great performance to am already out standing book.
How do you build a legend? Michael Gear is out-distancing his own phenomenal career with his Wyoming Chronicle series. With one of the most recently published books remarkably reviewed, this story will add to the explosively popular series. We fell in love with Breeze and Brandon Tappan in Dissolution. The epic story was the beginning chapter of an outstanding series, starting a new Genre in fiction, Cli-fi or eco-fiction. Breeze is not the only Line rider to become more of a legend then a living person, Lauren Davis may still cause her a run for the money. Masterful written with a combination of suspense, anticipation, and misdirection, Michael explores the demise of American society, not with a whimper, but an explosive internal explosion. His use of dramatic build, and exceptional survival his characters are faced with the evils of a world without laws. In his book men and women prey on those weaker than them, to find Lauren Davis standing in their way. I read each page with the hope that something will get better, to find that Michael’s knowledge of Wyoming history still can teach the modern fans. It's simple to say if you don’t learn about history you're bound to relive it, then there is Michael’s version. I learned more about history, and the strength of Wyoming character than I ever knew. I have to see how Lauren and Breeze together in the ranch will change the world.

Great book vivid scene haunts me
a match in story for the first novel.
Spoiler not spoiler alert
Author fills in events to a reference in the first book about some refugees found dead. The tragic scene hits deep into the heart and followed me for weeks as if I had encountered it, instead of the characters.
10/10 will listen to again many times, but only if I skip one small section of it.

Great book-but not for the feint of heart-
I read Book 1 and almost didn't listen to Book 2. Some of Michael Gear's detailed descriptions are so vivid--they can take you to a place you may not want to go.
I almost put book 2 down a couple of times. Not because of the story, or the narration, which were very well done. Some scenes were too much--almost! His descriptions were do vivid I felt like I was there. Isn't that what a good book is supposed to do?
Personally I normally prefer a book that perhaps exposes the ankles to the dark waters--his book emerges the whole body into the abyss...but he does bring you back out into the light!
Well done!!!
Bottom line-five stars!!!

Great Story... But Has Issues.
Just like the first 2 Books of this Series I Really like this Audiobook and I would still recommend it unless you are a bit squeamish when it comes to Overly Destriptive Gore. However there are more than a few things that annoyed me about this Book.
[Some Spoilers]
The first was during the Assassination attempt. Like Hell the Bodyguards protecting the Potential Victim wouldn't react to a Person in Plain Sight Drawing a Gun. The way the Situation was laid out Rang Hollow to Me.
The Next Dumb thing that Annoyed the Hell out of Me is When the Convoy Decides to Ambush their Attackers with Night Vision Gear. There were Multiple issues with this, Starting with the Convoy's Lack of Initial Caution about the Enemies that were Gathering for an Attack. Which lead to Multiple of their Number being Gunned down. Stupid but Okay. Then for some reason one of our Main Characters is not given a set of NVG's for the Nighttime Assault. This made absolutely no sense considering that the Convoy had already lost a Number of Soldiers who Should've had sets of Night Vision Goggles. Then during the Assault itself our MC's Witness the Bad Guys Bring out a Heavy Weapon that could cause Major Trouble and they ignore it and the Dangerous Sniper Accompanying it until the Bad Guys start causing Serious Damage. Why?? I have no Idea. Makes no Tactical sense. Then to My Dismay this Scene Ends with our people letting the Surviving Enemies Go. Again Why??? Apparently just, Because.... It doesn't seem to matter anymore that these Killers are responsible for Murdering several Members of the Convoy and several of the Civilian Scientists. Stupid.
One Minute our MC's are saying that they'll Kill all the Evil Bastards and the Next Instance their just letting Enemies Go to Continue Their Pillaging Ways and attack them a second time. Like I Said, it's Annoying to have such Inconsistencies and Oversights in Judgment. Towards the End of this Audiobook I was Practically Yelling at the Characters to get a Clue and Not Underestimate Your Enemies.
Still A Good Book, but it needs a serious Rewrite in Multiple Places.
