About this listen

Raised and trained in seclusion at a secret fortress on the edge of the northern wilds of the Kingdom of Ashai, a young warrior called Rezkin is unexpectedly thrust into the outworld when a terrible battle destroys all that he knows. With no understanding of his life’s purpose and armed with masterful weapons mysteriously bestowed upon him by a dead king, Rezkin must travel across Ashai to find the one man who may hold the clues to his very existence.

Determined to adhere to his last orders, Rezkin extends his protection to an unlikely assortment of individuals he meets along the way, often leading to humorous and poignant incidents.

As if pursuing an elite warrior across a kingdom, figuring out who he is and why everyone he knows is dead, and attempting to find these so-called friends and protect them is not enough, strange things are happening in the kingdom. New dangers begin to arise that threaten not only Rezkin and his friends, but possibly everyone in Ashai.

This is the first installment of an ongoing series. This book is intended for adult readers. It contains graphic violence, creative language, and sexual innuendo. This book does not contain explicit sexual content.

outstanding!

It's hard finding a good book and this was amazing! The narrator was also hands down amazing.

To those saying the main character is too perfect...

I think what Kel Kade has done here is fascinating. In most fantasy novels, we witness a mere human learning to deal with godlike powers. In KDT we see Rezkin start off with godlike powers and slowly learn to be human. I was thoroughly entertained.

Unexpectedly hilarious!

Funny, dark, and a real "page-turner", the audiobook did not disappoint. I plowed through this while completing mundane tasks at work and relaxing in the evenings, usually with headphones, and recieved many a look doubting my mental competence from coworkers and family members due to my abrupt laughter after long periods of silence due to the extremely humorous (I found, anyway) "misunderstandings" between Rezkin and his "friends". I personally love dark characters that are extremely competent and are, within the world they inhabit, the most skilled and dangerous creatures on two legs, and this series takes that concept to another level and shows the inner mental machinations of both sides of most conversations, causing a deeper appreciation and understanding of the characters' motivations and viewpoints, which was a constant source of amusement. If you have not read this, or listened to it, you are denying yourself a singular experience and are all the poorer for having missed out. I have never been prouder of my entertainment reading choices since I first grabbed Jim Butcher's "Storm Front" in a Barnes & Noble on a whim after deciding to give the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section a chance after two decades of scoffing mental pictures of pimply D&D dungeonmasters poring over the selection. Do yourself a favor, and allow yourself to be immersed.

Medieval Batman!!!

Rezkin is like a medieval Batman. He is a total badass and has plans for everything. It is refreshing to read about a strong character that isn't constantly getting his butt handed to him. The only downside to the book is the women characters, especially Frisha. I found her to be so annoying, especially the whiny voice the Nick does for her. Reaylin is no better really. The story isn't handed to you on a platter, as you are following Rez through the book and know about as much as he knows, which isn't much. It can get a bit frustrating where it would be easier for all parties to just reveal what they know and share information. There is no hugh, epic battle at the end, it just sort of ends. That didn't stop me from using a credit to get the next book, which is pretty great so far.
Nick Podehl, as usual, does an amazing job and jumps between the various characters and their accents seamlessly.

Great story, very entertaining.

The main character has a lot to learn. Even if it is fiction the reader can relate to many of the situations that befall our awesome hero.

Narration/reader

Excellent book and very well written and entertaining. The only comment I would make is that the narration is very quick speaking and takes a moment to get used to. But a strong male lead with a complex story and very enjoyable.

A light listen, but very entertaining.

Even though I found this title light and relaxing, almost like a popcorn movie, I found myself sneaking in every spare minute to find out what happens next... Very entertaining.
