About this listen

Matthew Riker promised to walk away from a life of violence. Now he’s broken his word, and it’s time to pay the price.

After the events of The Import, Riker finds himself on the wrong side of his former employers, an elite mercenary group called QS-4. To escape with his life, Riker agrees to take on a job even they can’t touch: protecting a wealthy young man with political connections and possible ties to a terrorist organization.

Riker quickly finds himself sucked into a world of fast cars, big money, and no consequences. But his client isn’t interested in making his job easy, and a chance encounter with a beautiful heiress makes things even more complicated. Failure means death, but success might mean something even worse. On this job, Riker will have to walk the thin line between survival and damnation.

Great Story and narration!

I really like Riker! This is a great series do far. With only 2 books out I am already hooked.

This story is full of action, adventure, mystery, bad guys and an odd ball great team Riker got together. Some great characters and well done character development. Lots of dialogue too.

As for the narration, it is amazing! I love Jay Snyder. He does such a great job on all the voice distinction and the female voices. He has a nice reading voice and reads with emotion. Makes the story come to life!

Getting to know Matthew Riker

A great second book and follows the first books frenetic pace.
With this second book, we get to know the protagonist and the way he works and thinks.
A really enjoyable read, and beautifully read.
I’m off to get book three!

Soooo Good!!

JT Baier truly has a winning hand with warrior extraordinaire Matthew Riker. I think the ONLY thing I would change about Riker is that he should carry a small trauma kit with tourniquet, fine fishing line and curved needles, a couple slim packets of BleedStop and some of the honey he bottles. Riker is not impervious to injury as some literary heroes seem to be. He clearly has training and a brain, so coming up with a compact kit that he can carry on his body or in a go-bag, with a larger one he can keep at his temporary bases or inside vehicles he/team are using would seem easy to fit within weapons cases and/or stash on-site in places he's surveiling. Hope to see more of Simon, Franklin and Jessica. Otherwise, absolutely excellent storyline and narration.😁

Superb narration, okay story

This was a pretty good book; although I don't think it was anywhere near as good as “The Import”. There was a slight twist of plot in this one, but nothing too surprising. The character development in this one was not as good either; we got to hear about what Riker did but not really as much about his thought process.

Snyder, as usual, did a phenomenal job; he is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators, easily up there with Scott Brick, Ray Porter, and the like.

This is still a good book; it's entertaining and a good distraction from daily life - I just wouldn't go into it expecting an intricate plot with lots of twists and turns.
