About this listen

When Paula D'Arcy lost her husband and baby in a car crash, she began an inner search for a faith that was stronger than fear. In Gift of the Red Bird, she shares her remarkable spiritual adventure. Grief, she shows us, is an ongoing, never-completed process, one that becomes woven into the fabric of the grieving person's spiritual life. A three-day solitary wilderness trip tested her faith, especially when a massive storm tore through her canyon home. But a red bird that miraculously survived the storm taught her to laud the tiny miracles of our earthly lives.

Critic reviews

“I was deeply moved by this beautiful true story, and you will be too.” (Madeleine L’Engle)
“A story full of hope, reminding us not only of our need to learn and relearn certain basic truths, but of God’s patience in guiding us.” ( Spiritual Book News)
"Paula D'Arcy's serene voice powerfully underscores the message of her inspirational true story. As she describes the tragic loss of her husband and child, her painful emotions are real and raw. While still grieving, she must prepare for a new life with her unborn daughter. The author depicts her struggle to find peace with genuine feeling, as she takes the reader through her depression and her failed attempts and ultimate success in gaining spiritual renewal. D'Arcy recounts her experiences, sometimes frightening and dangerous, in an expressive voice that blends her sorrowful remembrances with a steadfast hope of achieving new wholeness." ( AudioFile)

A must read

Paula's voice was clear and easy to hear while driving the highways.
The story was a continual surprise to me, while the end was a breath of
Spiritual warmth and hope. It is a blessing to read.

Relatable story

Paula D’Arcy seems to read my mind about spirituality. She vocalizes my thoughts and asks my questions.

No mention of Jesus...just a bunch of malarchy

What did you like best about Gift of the Red Bird? What did you like least?

I gave it three stars because I enjoyed some parts of the story but there is a whole new age of "christianity" out now with no mention of Christ's work on the cross. The author seemed to be doing some new brand of psychotherapy on herself that she calls GOD.

Would you recommend Gift of the Red Bird to your friends? Why or why not?

no, I would not recommend this book to my Christian friends.

Any additional comments?

I hope Audible will let me trade this book in
