Publisher's summary

Gist is a powerful book that reviews and examines what the journey to adulthood entails, along with a clear look at those parenting efforts that have proven not to work over the years. ''Many hours and much emotional energy are spent in parenting strategies where nothing positive is produced.''

Gist is a fascinating look at many aspects of life that wouldn't typically be associated with parenting. But the result is a new way to think about parenting that is effective, efficient, and enjoyable. The audiobook's focus on life-readiness offers parents a new lens through which to see their parenting interactions and translates to an approach that eliminates many of the power struggles and ineffective patterns that can rob families of much of their joy.

Raising Life Ready Kids

So good - so helpful in raising our 11 year old daughter to be life ready. Wish I would’ve read earlier so our adult children could have benefited. I will encourage them to read this book once they have kids. Thank you - I will use Gist as a resource!

Very helpful

I loved this book and have recommended it to many of my friends. Not everything will be relevant to all parents but it is a practical and sometimes challenging look at how to rethink parenting. Quite a few times I felt myself starting to feel tense and wanting to disagree with the with the authors, then they would give a real life example and suddenly I saw things in a whole new way. I think this book is relevant to all parents (and anyone working with kids) but I think it is especially relevant to parents whose kids are starting to head towards the teen years.

Solid and helpful

This book has given my husband and I some good foundational common ground as we parent through the teen years. It may not all be revolutionary, but as a package it has prompted a positive direction to our family dynamics. My summary as I share this book and these concepts with my friends and family - when our children are born we provide and protect; as they grow we make a gradual shift to preparing them for adulthood. This book provides a lot of practical tips to help us all be successful in that venture.

So, so good! Got the hard copy for quick reference

This is the most comprehensive parenting book I have read. The authors dig into tough parenting topics and address mild to extreme behaviors. They also give practical advice to parents to address these behaviors and to improve overall family life. The wisdom and content here is priceless.

A must read for any parent

So much valuable, practical information/guidance for any parent with any age child. I have 5 kids and found great insight for each of them and how to parent them. The book does not shame by, pointing out all the mistakes we as parents make, but instead offering information on how to understand children's minds and how best to parent them. The duel narrators did a great job and I loved the "Gist of it" at the end of each chapter.

Informative

This book is great for new parents. If you are a parent of teens or adult children , like me, this book still has great points to help you understand how your child may be functioning. You will discover what you can do to change how you parent them to bring more peace and balance to your home.
