About this listen

When Emily Rose Howard took in four goats, she didn’t know she was getting more than she bargained for. However, life gets even more complicated when her neighbor’s son brings his army friend home for a visit after the Civil War ends, and her former art professor shows up too. But life in the Appalachian Mountains has never been easy, and Emily Rose is determined to face her problems with faith and determination the way she always has.

It’s a long trip from Georgia to Kansas, and Robert Johnson agrees to go home with Lomax Greer and rest up before he goes on to see his sister and her family. The mountains of North Carolina are closer, and Robert is exhausted from the long years of fighting for the Union. However, he hadn’t expected the Appalachians or Lomax’s neighbor to be so lovely. He likes the small, mountain farm, even with all its complications, but he knows there’ll come a time when he must return to Kansas. What will happen then, if part of his heart will always remain in these mountains?

Christian Historical Romance

This book ended way too soon!
I loved the slow building relationships between this couple! Too often books rush the romance and don't give feelings a chance to grow!
Seems like everyone is in line to marry this educated, creative, beautiful, capable mountain woman, but her heart doesn't beat for any of them, and none appreciated all that she is, until Robert comes to the mountains! Very well written! I just wish someone came to faith or deepened his or her walk with the Lord!
I'm getting used to this narrator, but there's still room to improve!

Lovely romance with the fun of Nero!

Oh Nero, that goat! What a character! Emily took in four goats, only to find out Nero is quite the handful. Always out, getting into trouble, she is at her wits end. But not only does she have the new livestock, but Robert, a soldier, has come home with her neighbor, Lomax, on his way to Kansas to settle back in near his sister. Robert and Emily have a chemistry, a slow friendship brewing that steadily is building into something more. But even as Robert and Emily do things together around her farm, including trying to keep Nero in the pen, they both know there is an end date. Where does it all end up? I love this story. First, I love the goats. Nero is so funny, always something new happening with him. Then there is Emily. She is sweet, has abundant faith that God will help her through life and her feelings for Robert are so warm. Robert is amazing. Very attentive, predicting what Emily needs and always being there make him impossible not to fall for. Then there is Lomax! The one who is constantly poking at Emily. He's like a brother to her and loves to tease! This is a fun listen, and a feel good love story.

Douglas Birk and Jennifer Groberg are the storytellers and they made the story fly by. Perfect comedic timing with Nero, a slow burn romance and a feeling of really coming home came through both of their performances and made for the best weekend listen!

Fun Story

Listening to the audiobook Got your Goat was pure fun. Emily Rose lives in the Appalachian Mountains, and a neighbor recently gave her goats, since he was moving away. Well, these goats are getting to be more trouble than they are worth, and the male goat Nero is just a pesky critter. When her neighbors son, Lomax, brings home a friend from the war, Robert, she finds it very interesting. Her friend Lomax certainly has played tricks on her in the past, but this goat is getting worse. With the help of Robert she gets help and feelings between the two of them are beginning.
I was given a copy of the book by the author for an honest review.

Entertaining and Romantic

I really liked this book! There was some goat humor, adventure, romance and wonderful characters. It was also inspirational as the relationship of Emily Rose and Robert progressed, each putting the other before their own desires, and turning to God for leading. Very encouraging to see that God can take Robert's life that seemed like a hopeless mess and turn it around. It was a sad day when Robert left to return to Kansas and his family, but Emily Rose turned to God and was ready to move on. She knew in the end she needed to trust God and His plan for her life. This series has been made up of different types of stories and characters and each one has been delightful. I'm looking forward to more!

The narration was well done and I enjoyed that they used a man for the men and a woman for the women. It made listening interesting.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A Sweet and Gentle Romance

A sweet romance develops when two strangers meet. Robert stops at his friends house on his way home from the war and meets Emily Rose. The story moves along in a gentle manor and you meet some well-developed side characters too, one of which is an feisty goat. The story concludes with a very satisfying ending.
