About this listen

In this funny romantic series, the Shackleford sisters descend on a Regency society that doesn't know what's hit it…

....Reverend Augustus Shackleford's mission in life (aside from ensuring the collection box was suitably full every Sunday) was to secure advantageous marriages for each of his eight daughters. A tall order, given the fact that in the Reverend's opinion they didn't possess a single ladylike bone in the eight bodies they had between them. Quite where he would find a wealthy titled gentleman bottle headed enough to take any of them on remained a mystery and indeed was likely to test even his legendary resourcefulness. ....

Grievously wounded at the Battle of Trafalgar, Nicholas Sinclair was only recently returned to Blackmore after receiving news of his estranged father's unexpected death. After an absence of twenty years, the new Duke was well aware it was his duty to marry and produce an heir as quickly as possible. However, tormented by recurring nightmares after his horrific experiences during the battle, Nicholas had no taste to brave the ton's marriage mart in search of a docile obedient wife. …..

Never in his wildest dreams did Reverend Shackleford envisage receiving an offer for his eldest daughter from the new Duke of Blackmore. Of course, the Reverend was well aware he was fudging it a bit in describing Grace as respectful, meek or dutiful, nevertheless, he could never have imagined that his eldest daughter's unruliness might end up ruining them all….

Perfect for fans of funny, lighthearted Regency Romances with a little bit of steam.

Wierdest male narrator of all time.

Cute love story. I was really looking forward to listening to this book & series. Unfortunately, the male narrator does extremely wierd voices for some characters making it hard to listen to & by that I mean exhausting & eye- rolling worthy. I would have listened to the others in the series, but he alone makes me pass. He is talented & needs to be on stsge doing comedic roles or maybe voices for puppets but it’s overkill in an audible listen.

Narrator almost ruined it.

The storyline was cute. The narrator tried to talk in different voices and it was terrible. It was so distracting from the story.

Lighthearted

Book One in the Shackleford Sisters Series, introducing the characters as well as the love story. It’s kind of a silly, slapstick comedy that’s easy to read, but covers some of the effects of the trauma of war.
The Audible narration is pleasant.

Enjoyable

I loved the first half of the book as the two finally figure out that they love each other. Was frustrated by the actions of the reluctant Duke in totally accepting his wife but in the end he came around but took awhile. Narrative excellent.

This is no love story!

The whole story was about characters who did not connect. But in the book's last five minutes, they decide they love each other. This book is unbelievable and not as good as the author's other series. The narrators were good but did an awful job portraying a woman’s voice.

Ugh

I both liked and hated this book. Funny, very funny. I loved the book until the MMC became a complete jerk. Worse than him being a jerk was the FMC accepting his behavior and even apologizing for something he should have been groveling about. This is a weak, and selfish man. I’m unfortunately going to wind up thinking about this book for way too long because I’m just so disgusted with his behavior and why the author made the FMC have such zero self respect.

Luke warm romance

The vicar/ father is as featherbrained as Mrs. Bennet. Yes there are funny bits. Mostly I was just irritated by the Duke and the father. No real grand gesture, no trying to communicate, and no real surprises. The narrators put their all into the voices in an extremely theatrical manner which helped with the entertainment of the story. Overall I most likely will not finish the series.

I love British Humor

Would have liked this a lot more had the bedroom scenes not been so detailed. I ended up just skipping past.

Good

The series is really good but that male narrator drives me crazy. I cannot even continue the series if I have to hear him talk.
