Critic reviews

"Number-one New York Times best seller Hamilton is still thrilling fans...with her amazing multifaceted characters and intricate multilayered world, a mix of erotic romance, crime drama, and paranormal/fantasy fiction. Her descriptive prose is gritty and raw, with a mosaic of humor and horror to tell this complex, well-detailed story. But it’s her enigmatic stable of stars that continues to shine, managing their improbable interpersonal relationship dynamics.” (Library Journal)

Paranormal Entities Galore

This is a solid start to the lengthy Anita Blake series. Anita is a multi talented, fiesty young woman with multiple resources to help her fight supernatural crime. An investigator by day and an animator by night, she is often called in by the local police department to assist with their otherworldly investigations. Her reputation for slaying vampires does not seem to deter the city's master vampire, Jean Claude, from pursuing her. This is a solid recipe for excitement, mystery, action, and paranormal intrigue.

Personally, i am 5 books into the series and planning to purchase more. I believe there are close to 20 novels in total. One of my favorite details in this series is that the story takes place in St. Louis, Missouri - my home town! Laurell Hamilton often incorporates various St. Louis neighborhoods in her writing. Imagining my city overrun with vampires, zombies, and ghouls is a unique listening experience!

Amazing READ!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend to anyone that loves paranormal books. It was so well written and the story just engages you.

What did you like best about this story?

The people and how you become so involved in Anita Blake's life and you want to know what happens

Which character – as performed by Kimberly Alexis – was your favorite?

Anita and Jean Claude, actually Kimberly Alexis did an amazing job on all the characters so it was hard picking just one favorite.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't stop listening to this book I had to keep listening until done. I have a feeling all of this series is going to be the same way.

Any additional comments?

Anita Blake is just your regular Vampire Hunter and known as the Executioner to Vampires. When Vampires start showing up dead forever, the master of the city enlist her assistance whether she wants to give it or not. Follow Anita as she becomes entangled in the web of power struggles and murder. I can definitely say this is a must read series. If you like paranormal books than Laurell K. Hamilton is a must read author.

Great, but abridged

I expected this was the full version but noticed some missing segments. Kimberly Alexis does a much better job than the original voice talent.

great read.
I bought this book many years ago and loved it. This is a first time I listened to a book being narrated by someone else and was a little strange at 1st, But I love Laurell K. Hamilton and all her writings
The narrator was wonderful and didn't read flatly but with emotion ...
thank you.

Great book if you ignore the annoying bell sound

The performance and story are great the only issue I had is with a ringing sound that is used in several parts of the story. It is not needed and takes you out of the performance.
