About this listen

What would you do to remember? What would you give to forget?

When Tess Porter agrees to pick up her boyfriend’s college pal at the airport on a snowy December night, she has no idea she’s about to embark on the most dangerous ride of her life. Two days later, the seventeen-year-old wakes up in a hospital with broken bones, unable to remember how she got there. Her parents are acting strange, and neither James, her boyfriend, nor her best friend, Izzy, has visited. As she struggles to physically recover, Tess wrestles with haunting questions: What happened? Will her memory ever return? And what if she’s better off not recalling any of it?

Love the story Love the narration

This was so good that I’m mad she doesn’t have way more books! Keep going! And she was definitely an Aries character! Whewww!

Too drug out

Book could have been 3 hours. Drawn out and no thrill.
Performance was amazing.
I hate writing negative reviews but heed the warning.

YA lit: spoiled teen in mixed genre story

Starts as a thriller or mystery and converts to coming of age story. 17 yo girl is in hospital with amnesia and injuries from physical trauma. She recalls slowly as cruel adults withhold facts. (When you tire of this, skip to chapter 30 for reveal.)
[What follows may be a spoiler though I give no details. If you have fully decided to listen, do not continue.]
Second half of book is unfolding of actions and secrets that partly explain the first. Tess is witty but highly entitled with specific expectations for those around her and critical where they disappoint. She is emotionally and sexually immature for stated age. (I liked her for being clever but eww is she spoiled! Is that the norm nowadays?). Long catharsis: truthtelling, apologies, gratitude, relationship development. Lessons partly learned, forgiveness incomplete.
Narration is excellent but slow. I went all the way to 2x speed as she seemed to tell the story about as fast as it all happened.

Not a YA Thriller, but still good

I picked this one, thinking I would be getting a basic YA thriller. I mean, look at the cover, right?!? But it's actually much more than that, it deals with loss and forgiveness and grief. Much heavier topics than I thought I was getting, but I ended up really liking the story. The characters feel real and believable, which doesn't happen often in YA novels. 4 stars! Which from me, is really good, I only give 5 stars to my favorites.

Excellent

Just an outstanding book. Had me from the beginning. My only quibble- and it’s a minor one - is when the mom eventually apologized and reconciled with the daughter, her apology still came across as blaming others for why she did what she did. There’s no “hey, nobody pushed me into this, I just made horrible choices and was an awful person. No excuses.” It was more like, “well I felt neglected and invisible so that lead me to do what I did.” Sort of marred the ending a little for me.

Good

I enjoyed the story. Good character and world creation. It was more a coming of age drama with a little mystery thrown in, than a mystery/thriller but a good story.

Not Surprised

I don't know about you but I really dislike being able to figure out the whole plot not even halfway through a book. I admit I read and listen to a lot of books so I've gotten good at this but it's still disappointing. Other than that the book was good.

Poignant

I enjoyed this book. I figured out some of it early on, but it was good enough to keep going. I cried during parts, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing…
