Publisher's summary

Forever a Wallflower....

Miss Cecily Findlay practices proper etiquette, dances the waltz flawlessly, wears clothes of the latest fashion, and is a beauty in her own right. Even so, she'd never be received by the ton if not for her enormous dowry...which has attracted Flavion Nottingham, a spoiled and entitled earl. This so-called gentleman has beggared his estate and sees Cecily as the answer to all his problems. Most dastardly of all, he doesn't care if he shatters her dreams while executing his devious scheme.

Forever the Spare....

Mr. Stephen Nottingham, successful industrialist, is back in England to save his cousin's (ahem) assets but may have arrived too late. The clean-up involves settling massive debts, dismissing a clinging mistress, and dealing with more than one irate papa. None of that matters, however, as much as saving the beautiful Cecily.

A Forever kind of Love....

Cecily is trapped by Lord Kensington, and Stephen is trapped by his honor. Happily ever after hangs in the balance. Will fate open the doors for their enduring love?

Contains mature themes.

Loved it

Wonderful story and very satisfying...villain truly gets his just reward! I, however, feel like my karma took a hit since I don't think I could have been so forgiving. Stephen was a bit of a wonk in that he was so devoted to villain. I like Mary Sarah a lot so I highly recommend.

Story great, narration not so much

The writing style is lovely. The story is mysterious and romantic.I did question why the characters did not make the death threats more of a priority. Also, there were several little inconsistencies, like at one moment, she redresses but wakes up naked . Like magic? lol

I wish I had read the book rather than listened because the narration was so odd. Her cadence is choppy and her inflections so muddled in fluctuating accents I could not understandsome of her words.. In fact often it seemed she was confused & undecided on the appropriate accents flipping from British to Irish to American within the same monolog.... unintentionally funny like a cartoon,😆 Mostly, her delivery is overly dramatic and jarring. I found myself rolling my eyes at the narration not the content.

Delightful, Funny, Sad and Happy Ever After

The narrator is one of the best I’ve had the privilege to listen to. Her delivery is spot on. Her voices are modulated well. I especially liked her voice for Stephen and Favion. The writing was superlative. She threw in enough comedy to make the story not get bogged down. With all the stupid stuff Fave does it could have gotten bogged down easily. The comedy broke it up well. When the lovers have to part it is extremely sad and you start to wonder if they will ever get back together. The twist at the end was very satisfying and gave us a happy ending as all romance novels should end.

Love it all!

Such great characters, especially the women. You feel like you could be friends with them. The narrator is AMAZING! She even changed her tone when she would switch between narrating Stephan and Cecely’s parts. That’s a true professional! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I throughly enjoyed this one. Even though the ending! It was not a boring story at all.

First time with this author, won't be my last

This story was different than many of the historical romances I read. I enjoyed it and while I expected some kind of HEA, I honestly was kept off guard through most of the story. That's great fun for me, because we all know romance books are terribly formulaic. But I enjoyed all the characters, even Flave. who kept me interested in his motives, bad manners, arrogance..... he was a willful, dangerous, spoiled toddler. Stephen frustrated me, he was a little hot and cold, but always good hearted. I really liked the heroine, she was neither a door mat nor a ninny. She tried hard not to be any mans puppet except where she was forced to be because of the times she lived in. I respected her, and I often don't respect women in romances sad to say.
The narration..... I have never heard Mary Sarah narrate before, and believe me, I'd remember. Such an unusual reading style. You have to hear her read the "Chapter" numbers and you won't be able to get it out of your head. haha.. I played "Chapter Four" for my grandson and it's something we say to each other now.. It's very dramatic for 2 words. I honestly can't say if I liked her narration or not. At times, it made me laugh, when there was nothing funny written. She has unusual cadence, she puts emphasis where you don't expect it, and more. That kind of narration takes me out of the story honestly. But at times I felt she gave the characters depth, individuality, interest. By the end of the book, I was more use to her style and voice and now I've downloaded another book by Annabelle Anders with Mary Sarah narrating, so I think I've been won over.

Awful, awful narrator

This storyline is original, no doubt, and among one of best I’ve read in a while in Regency romance. But, when I tell you Mary Sarah is HORRIBLE and by far the worst narrator I’ve heard in a long time, is an understatement. I changed the speed several time hoping to hit a sweet spot. I never did. Read the book, listening is just too painful. You’re welcome!

Unique Story

The narration by Mary Sarah is distinct in her style. It may not be for everyone but I thought she portrayed the story very well. There are some repeated lines in the recording in chapter 7.

The first 6 hours of this story was unique. It didn't follow the usual historical romance template. No excessive miscommunication, No overly coercive alpha male. No sexual assault. The characters were strong.
The story was extremely entertaining. I started looking up what else the author had written. The premise of the story was not one I've encountered before. Tame / mild steam. Good romance. One of the best listens I've had in some time.

The last 3 hours fell back on the usual formula. The characters became weak and stupid. Basic communication was non existent. Common sense went out the window. I was overly frustrated by this because the first 2/3 of the story was so good. I will try the next book.

Possible spoilers ahead...

There was one primary goal of the whole story. When the chance presents it's self, you take a pass? Attempted murder forgiven? Cheating forgiven? I was rooting for her the whole time. In the end I just didn't really care that much anymore.

Great story

I loved the story and characters. The narrator is a bit annoying. The way she announced the next chapter made my stomach turn lol
