Publisher's summary

Soul mates across time. A sacrifice that could keep them apart forever.

In present day, near the village of Ornes, France, Devon works on his master's thesis in history as he fantasizes about meeting a WWI American Doughboy.

In 1917, during the Battle of Ornes, Stanley is a young soldier facing the horrors of the battlefield.

Mourning the death of his friends from enemy fire, Stanley volunteers to bring the message for retreat so he can save everyone else in his battalion. While on his mission, mustard gas surrounds Stanley, and though he thinks he is dying, he finds himself in a peaceful green meadow where he literally trips over Devon.

Devon doesn't believe Stanley is who he says he is, a soldier from WWI. But a powerful attraction grows between them, and if Stanley is truly a visitor from the past, then he is Devon's dream come true. The problem is, Stanley's soul wants to finish his mission, and time keeps yanking him back to relive his fateful last morning over and over, even as his heart and body long to stay with Devon.

Will Stanley have to choose between Devon and saving his battalion? Will time betray their love, leaving each alone?

A male/male time-travel romance, complete with hurt/comfort, French coffee, warm blankets, fireplace kisses, the angst of separation, and true love across time.

A late contender for audiobook of the year for me

Oh WOW... I bought this without ever having read anything by this author before, because the blurb intrigued me. I was a bit nervous because time travel is always a bit hit or miss for me. But I was blown away with how much I liked the actual novel. It has everything--action, romance, heartbreak, redemption. And the ending! I caught myself tearing up more than once. This is easily one of my favorite audiobooks this year, and I listen to a LOT of audiobooks. Greg Boudreaux, always a reliable narrator even if I'm not always a huge fan of the books he narrates, knocks this out of the park. Highest recommendation.

I found my true love across a century

A beautiful time-traveling love story between a solider from WWI and a present day scholar who’s obsessed with studying on WWI and the battle that Americans so throughly lost. It’s a love story across a century.

Stanley Sullivan died on a battlefield in France. He was a young man who thought he could bring honor home by signing up to become a solider in WWI and made his country proud. But alas, war is always so very brutal and unpredictable. On his last day on the battlefield, he signed up for the suicide mission to save his entire squad. But he failed his mission and choked up on mustard gas. But miraculously, he found himself on the same ground in 2018 and he was rescued by a handsome, spirited scholar. Devon first couldn’t believe that Stanley is a time traveller, he thought he must have mental problems or he’s a liar. But then he found out Stanley isn’t lying.

This is a poignant, beautiful and sad story. My heart just aches for Stanley and his comrades who didn’t make it in the battlefield. Stanley fell in love with Devon and wanted to be with him but at the same time, the survivor guilt tortured him. And we all know guilt is the absolutely horrible thing that hinders a person’s happiness. I feel very sad about Issac too. But then again, war is always cruel and brutal and more often than not, most people don’t have a happy ending when it comes to war. Stanley is so very lucky to have a second chance in life with a lovely soul like Devon. The ending was just right but I wish we could have had an epilogue. Greg Boudreaux as always did a magnificent job narrating the story. I loved it so much.

I love the characters and the journey they go through to be together. their belief that they belong together keeps them searching for each other every time they are pulled apart. I love the story and the characters hold you as you hope for them.
This is a fantastic story that I don't believe you will be disappointed in listening to.

Not Left Undone

Just wow. I had decided to try this series out after finding out the connect of the 2nd book in the series to Farmingdale Ranch and I wanted to do them order. I’m not sure what I expected but It beat all expectations. I really love the story and the tense moments waiting to see what would happen next. Even if historical or time travel isn’t you go to give this book a chance. I listened to the audio version that was very well down. #CMCon24

Keeps you guessing

4.5 Blue Roses

3 Blue Flames

Narrator Greg Boudreaux hit another random luckshot hole-in-one! His amazing opening credits with the deep emotional evocation of Flanders Fields set the perfect haunting tone for a beautiful Time Travel MM romance. That extra drop of emotion he squeezed out and those additional conscious pauses he took, contributed to a much more pleasant listening experience. Breaking up those long sentences, not only help prevent his own suffocation but will keep listeners appreciating the deep emotions of trepidation and nervousness.

My biggest bloody fear was Tetanus. I swear, if Stanley died of a Tetanus infection, I would kill Devon myself. I liked both characters, but the hero is my favorite for obvious reasons. Stanley is a smart young man, very brave but he takes the trophy for the virgin of the year. It is always a lot of fun to hear another virgin biting the belt.

The author wrote a well-rounded story with detailed descriptions of both worlds. The descriptions of the trenches, the rain, mud, and war were amazing. I could hear the bombs and bullets fly.

I would have liked a bit more smoldering sex, but for those who are more interested in the story itself, this one qualifies. It was gripping, intriguing, and not predictable. Hence, my need to dish out Tetanus vaccinations. I wish the story was longer.

Time Travel fanatics will greedily gobble up this series. Listeners will join me while we wait like hungry lions for 5 more books to be narrated. But for those ever-ready Energizer Bunnies, who like to read you may feast on the e-books.

I do recommend this audiobook

One of My Favorites - Adore Stanley and Devon

I was absolutely thrilled and delighted when I heard that Jackie North would be releasing her first audiobook for Heroes for Ghosts and narrated by Greg Boudreaux. Stanley and Devon are one of my favorite couples from her Love Across Time series and they're so sweet and wonderful. This is truly a love story across time from the war torn trenches of Ornes in 1917 to present day Ornes, France, where Devon is working on his thesis. Both men are wonderfully endearing and sweet together. Wonderful first audiobook for Jackie North with a brilliant performance by Greg Boudreaux :)

ALL THE STARS!!

For those who don't know, I love audiobooks. I have some favorite narrators, and for MM books, one of those is Greg Boudreaux. Not only do I find his voice soothing, but I love the way he tells a story. His narration makes me feel the words, and though it's cliche, I think he could read me the telephone book, and it would calm me.

So when an opportunity came up to review an audiobook he was narrating, I knew I had to give it a chance. The book is MM romance, which is a favorite of mine, but it was by an author I had never heard of, let alone read, and it's a time travel romance. I don't usually jump on time travel, it gives me those flashback vibes, and if you follow me, you know I have a thing about flashbacks. But I read the Time Travelers Wife years ago and loved it. Plus, I was in the market for something outside of my ordinary, and the wonderful Greg Boudreaux is narrating, so why not?

People, this book did NOT disappoint. Heroes for Ghosts (isn't that title just so freaking romantic) by Jackie North is a time travel romance done to perfection.

What I loved:
The characters.
Stanley is a World War 1 soldier thrust from literally the trenches of war to present time, where he meets graduate student Devon.
Stanley is written in this innocent way, but only because of his apparent unknown knowledge of the time he is in, but yet he is so strong. I was wrapped up in his character from the moment his dialogue started.
Devon is an introvert and quiet, a little bit of a recluse but so loving and nurturing. He's my favorite kind of nerd because he is so wrapped up in his love for history he loses himself in it. The connection between the two characters has heat but in this slow burn, old fashioned, proper way.

The history.
I was as captivated by the history of this book as much as I was by the love story. I can't believe I am saying this, but I loved the back and forth. I think because it's not an actual flashback. When Stanley was in 1917, it's present time for him. It's not him recalling a memory; it's happening parallel to what's happening with Devon in the current time. I don't know why this is different for me, but it is. I'm not a history major by any means, but I thought the author did an outstanding job of giving information that was correct for the period without overwhelming with facts that weren't pertinent to the story.

Overall.
Heroes for Ghosts has to be the most romantic MM book I have read to date. You know that feeling you get when something touches your heart for two people, and your hand automatically goes to your mouth, and you smile, and your heart squeezes in the absolute best way? That's Heroes for Ghosts. My romantic soul is complete tonight.

Wonderful story

I'm not usually very fond of time-travel's romances but I decided to give this story a chance, and boy! was I happy I did so!

This is such a brilliant story! It has everything: suspense, plot, romance, vivid and full-fledged characters, historical details so rich that you feel immersed in the Great War, and the general feeling of this story is so beautiful that leave me... happy.

There is angst, but there is also love. So much love, and of different kinds, too: romantic love, friendship and camaraderie, love for your country and what is right. Honour, duty and destiny are, too, themes that are brought into the story.

So yes, this is one of those books that will stay with you for a long, long time. SImply beautiful.

And I must say that Greg Boudreaux did an awesome job with the narration ♥
