Acerca de esta escucha

Six months ago, I lost my husband. Six hours ago, I found out he had another family. Six minutes ago, my life changed forever.

For my forty-fifth birthday, I planned to treat myself to a spa day with my bestie. But instead, my late husband's insurance broker drops by to let me know that not only am I still widowed but my husband's insurance policies are being paid to his other wife-and his other family.

The next thing I know, I'm being romanced by an Indiana Jones wannabe who arrives like a dervish to sweep me off my feet. One thing leads to another, but before anything happens, Indy goes missing, the place is trashed, and I've got myself a glowing snake tattoo that seems to be talking to me about magic, curses, and a hex that is going to kill me. I arrive home to find Logan Gentry, a tall, dark drink of water who seems to think I am some ancient magical being sent here to solve his problems.

One thing is for sure . . . this guy knows more about what's happened to me than I do. If I help him, maybe I'll find some answers along the way. Assuming the curse on my possessed tattoo doesn't kill me first.

Age is just a number, right? Especially when you're possessed by an ancient Oracle.

I am on the hunt for a new author with a completed series I can binge, since I've read every single title of my current favorite authors. Most of the books I read are all about witches, vampires, shifters, etc., and an Oracle is one I haven't come across yet. But the dialogue in the first half of the book had me losing respect of the main character and becoming enraged at the constant stupid questions...."What do you mean? What? What's that? What's happening? And the main character constantly repeats what previous characters just said as a question. At one point, she's talking to someone who's dead, and she isn't and the woman tells her to go back, it's not healthy to stay in the in-between. And her response is, "in between of what?? DUH. It's beyond annoying. I dislike dumb heroines. It reminds me of another writer who goes by two different aliases in the same genre that I can't stand because of the same clueless dialogue, and made me wonder if she's writing under a third alias. But the second half of the book dropped this nonsense and I finished it. I'll most likely be finishing the series, but still looking for "the one."

Plus on creative originality, minus on dialogue

It seemed to me that the story was a bit slow getting to the point of the MC’s understanding of what her first test as a chosen Oracle was & how to accomplish the goal. The MC, Wynter, was a new widow of only 6 mo. when she learns that her husband had married another woman in another state & had children with her as well as with Wynter. To add insult to injury, he had changed his life insurance policy leaving Wynter & her children with only 20% of the benefits & 80% to his new family. When Wynter decides to go out on the town a short time later, she unknowingly is chosen to be an Oracle after trying on a bracelet she finds. It seems to take her a good while to figure out what the new snake tattoo on her arm really means & for her to decide if she really wants to pursue the requirements. This first in a series book starts slow but the ending might just compel you to check out book 2 as it has me. Overall I give it a 4.5* rating given the ending.

Lisa Manifold great new series, the characters are well crafted and the storyline is unique. Eva Wilhelm gave a stellar performance as she brought the storyline together and breathed life into it giving each character their own distinct voice. I highly recommend this book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.

Great new series

forget tstl - this h is too stupid to breathe. if you think it'll get better after she signs a legal document after learning she's been betrayed and follows this up by not taking the guilty party immediately to court, it doesn't.
the essential premise has promise I suppose, but unfortunately all the characters are stupid and most of the plot details are illogical (and not because of the supernatural elements; eg. the author doesn't seem to have even a nodding acquaintance with the legal system)

the only mystery is how this got published

Character goes on and on about something when saying her thoughts or doing an action which was already understood. Got annoying. Almost returned, but I was already halfway through

Kind of juvenile
