Publisher's summary

A warlike alien race. A stranded platoon. One man's fight to save his brothers - and humanity itself - from total annihilation.

Rade Galaal and his elite team are dispatched to the farthest reaches of known space to investigate the disappearance of a classified new supercarrier.

Equipped with Hoplites, powerful battle suits laden with enough firepower to raze a small city, Rade and his team explore the barren world where the starship issued its final transmission.

But shortly after they land, things start to go very wrong.

Cut off from the fleet, stranded on an unforgiving planet, and surrounded by hostiles, Rade and his men find themselves fighting for their very lives against a seemingly unstoppable foe. Even the awesome firepower of the Hoplites might not be enough.

Can Rade overcome his demons in time to save the platoon, or will his team become the first casualty of the coming alien war?

Book one of a military science fiction trilogy, Hoplite ends in a cliffhanger. Book two, Zeus, is available now. For fans of Starship Troopers, Armor, and Old Man's War.

Mech fights , brothers in arms , Tale to be told.

The book’s pacing is good. with just enough explanation of how the mech work to trigger great mental images. I only had two issues.
The beginning scene at the gym i felt was a bit rushed meeting everybody. This could be just me though. Smaller groups may have been better but still works.
Why did you decide on using fuel based propulsion for the mech. The mechs would be heavy enough with the fusion reactor plus fuse materials which need tanks of their own. Shielding for the reactor and being generous with good mount of composites to reduce mass adding a fuel tank for jump jets i feel the mech wouldn’t be able to move let alone fly. Now if i think an atmospheric plasma thruster that turns the any atmosphere int to propellant so long as you have power might be a better choice.

Summery:
Concise start to a a trilogy. Will like to see what comes next.

Good Story

Good story, awesome character development. Loved this installment of the series. Hated one of the characters ended up as a traitor unintentionally.

Hoplite

I first found Issac Hooke while listening to Bug Hunt. from there I made it a mission to listen to all his Space Opera books. I never had a bad listen to any of his books. Hoplite gives me a deeper insight into Bug Hunt and that series. This book is great.

as a whole, not too bad. not a waste of time.

The biggest complaint I had isnt really a fault of Isaac, it is the narrator in this audiobook. The narrator's voice was too grainy but I'm new to audiobooks. it took me probably 7-9 chapters before I actually learned the mannerisms for each character. The story is pretty good, I found myself wanting to listen to the next chapter with fervor.

Excellent Mil SF + First Contact

(I received a copy for review)
The mil SF field is pretty crowded, and there are a lot of excellent authors out there. If Isaac Hooke is not on your list, I heartily recommend him.
His focus is on the brotherhood of the soldiers, as well as the struggle against unknown enemies in strange places.
If you are a fan of mechs/battle armor this is definitely for you.

Good story and I'm enjoying the series' universe

I really enjoyed this story and am really looking forward to the rest of them, however I'm not sure I liked the narration. There was nothing wrong with the narration but I blame it on having been listening to the first book in the Argonauts series first and Luke Daniels narrated it so I had assumed he had done this series as well.
