Publisher's summary

Aurora Ares, owner of a bar that caters to paranormals, is content with her life. When children start to go missing in a small Midwest town, it looks like magic is to blame. With the paranormal world in political turmoil, it falls to Aurora to save the children. The problem is, she's a rogue vampire without the support of a coven.

Logan Wayne, who deals with powerful artifacts of magic, might be the best person to help, but his priorities are questionable at best. In order to save the children, Aurora will need the help of her two wolves and a man she can't trust. To make matters worse, it doesn't take long before she becomes the next target.

Good Urban Fantasy

Any additional comments?

Good listen, not great, but pretty good nonetheless. The narration starts off somewhat stiff, but she turns that around after a few chapters. I really like the Elemental series from the author, this is not quite as good, IMHO. The story has been done to a certain extent, loner in the paranormal world who has the coolest friends, out solving a case. The characters are likable and have depth though, and that's what really matters in most books.

Great new Urban Fantasy series

If you could sum up Hunting Shadows in three words, what would they be?

Fight the demonic

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hunting Shadows?

Aurora "Rory" tells her backstory to Logan and one part was about torture she endured when a couple of hunters caught her. It was really raw, vivid and intense.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Sarah Puckett?

Yes, absolutely. I did get the perception that she is new to narrating.

During the first chapter her cadence was very abrupt. It reminded me of a typewriter. You type a sentence and then you have to move the cylinder/bar before going onto the next sentence. There was too much emphasis on the end of the sentence. But by Chapter 2 that was no longer the case.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a book that I finished in a day. It was very intriguing.

Any additional comments?

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I honestly really liked this book and it seems like the beginning of a great urban fantasy series. I'm a huge urban fantasy fan and this book is right up my alley. My only qualm is that the author uses the word "for" too often. It's a great word to use in place of 'because' or 'circumstances led to' or 'due to the' at times, but using it too often becomes noticeable and detracts from the story.

I would & do recommend this book to other lovers of urban fantasy. It was also clean enough to be considered YA material!

Ok story, bad narrator.

I liked the story ok. It is a solid first book and I’m hoping it will develop more in the second book. I don’t know why there always needs to be a man / love interest in every single female lead book. Sarah Puckett really needs to find another job. She isn’t TERRIBLE but she is flat and unemotional. It sounds like me if I were trying to read the book out loud or me trying to act. It sucks and I know it’s sucks so I don’t do it! I have other books that she narrates and am mad because I don’t know if I can listen to them. Arg! I’ve heard worse tho (Lauren Schroeder I’m talking about you! She is TERRIBLE and ruins every book she narrates. Not to mention she narrates my type of books that are awesome! Ugh!) so it can be bearable at times.

Just ok

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Nothing about the characters or the story grabbed my attention

Would you be willing to try another book from Rain Oxford? Why or why not?

Yes, even though this wasn't one of my favorite books I would be willing to listen to other books by this author.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Sarah Puckett?

Yes I would. Sarah seemed a little rigid in her narration but I think she has a lot of potential as a narrator. She seemed to relax and allow the story to flow more as it went on.

Was Hunting Shadows worth the listening time?

I think so. It wouldn't be at the top of my list to listen to again but it was worth a first listen.

Book was OK but not as good as her other series

Would you try another book from Rain Oxford and/or Sarah Puckett?

yes. I love the Elemental series

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I actually like the ending. I thought the last chapter was the best of the book.

What three words best describe Sarah Puckett’s performance?

Too monotone

Was Hunting Shadows worth the listening time?

If you don't have anything else

missing something

this was about a rogue vampire, one with no coven, that was hired to find some missing children. She teamed up with Logan, who has a big secret himself. The story concept was good but sometimes it seemed like it was missing something. I am not sure if it was the book or the narration. I am hoping the next book is more informative. Good start to the series

This story was good and kept my interest throughout. The narration was ok and each characters voice was well defined. The speakers cadence took some getting used to though, there was just something a tiny bit off to it.
