About this listen

Hush Money tells a story that is all too familiar to Black people across the globe with the case study of Ebony, a young Black woman who was living in poverty, struggling financially, and finding it hard to make ends meet. It describes how she obtained a job with an organization, after years of working dead end jobs, that put her one step closer to living the American dream. But it also describes how that dream turned into a nightmare when she became a victim of systemic racism in her workplace, was stripped of all dignity, confidence and strength, and was left with three choices: suffering in silence to keep her job, resigning to keep her sanity, or waiting to be unjustly fired.

Hush Money also tells a story of triumph that breaks down the strategy Ebony used after years of suffering that not only proved systemic racism in her workplace, but also allowed her to keep her job and receive a six-figure settlement from her employer, among other things, to buy her silence.

Fantastic read

As a white person this was incredibly illuminating! Seeing how one black woman had all the receipts to prove that she did excellent work, and she was constantly foiled in just trying to live her own best life by manipulative racists, gave me a deep feeling of senseless injustice. The story was so well told that I was on the edge of my seat, and I'm anticipating getting to read the next book with great impatience.

Great read!!!

Very powerful story!!! The author’s detailed description of the pain she endured is phenomenal and heart wrenching; it was as if I were experiencing her pain first hand. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone that has experienced workplace discrimination personally, or would like insight on the trauma caused by workplace discrimination.

Powerful story

This is an incredible story that so many African Americans unfortunately experience. Ms. Abram takes the reader through every horrible detail so the reader feels her pain and frustration. Thank you for sharing your story.

Systemic Racism- Engaging read!

The story was written and performed well. The events are said to be inspired by true events. It is full of incidents of micro aggressions and out right racism, but the storyline is engaging and keeps you rooting for good to prevail. The main character continues to remain optimistic through it all. I sincerely hope some of the incidents are dramatized for effect.

Covert Racism Uncovered!

This is literally one of the best and most detailed recollections of workplace racism that I have ever read. It is what a lot of us face in corporate America, but are not prepared enough and detailed enough to document every situation like this woman did. I realize that it is a fictional story, but it is based on truth in reality. It’s a must read for sure. I encourage everyone who has experienced workplace racism to listen to this book on audible or by the hardcopy. I encourage every C suite executive, who considers him or her self, an ally, or co-conspirator to read, and re-read this book. It’s happening all around us, and we are being denied opportunities to show our excellence because of stupidity and racism. Organizations are also being denied the opportunity to benefit from our innovative, developments and minds. Again this is a must read, beautifully written, and articulated throughout.
