Publisher's summary

From Richard Lyntton, international Amazon number one best-selling author of North Korea Deception, comes an unforgettable new thriller in the Deception series featuring British army tank commander and gentleman spy Captain Jack Steele.

An unimaginable war is being fought in the heart of Europe. Millions of lives are at stake. One man can prevent it as a Western conspiracy plot to assassinate the warring factions they have been sent to protect.

A tragic event in London’s Hyde Park transforms Jack Steele’s life forever.

Can a United Nations military observer stay true to his feelings and mission when he discovers a devastating secret?

Which side will assassinate him first?

Jack Steele survived the first Gulf War. As a captain and tank commander, he saw the dark side of human conflict. A linguist, he speaks Russian, German, French, and Bosnian; he is the perfect man to execute the deadly mission. Except that he is the last to know it, and death might ultimately be his only escape.

War rages in former Yugoslavia. It’s a place few UN peacekeepers know or understand. But Steele must fulfill his promise to his brother and discover the true meaning and location behind the Sarajevo Protocol to save millions of lives and stop World War III in Europe.

Don’t miss this high-octane book two in The Deception Series; an adrenaline rush not for the fainthearted; an international action thriller with twists, turns, an impossible romance, and excruciating choices. Jack Steele must risk everything including those he loves - but only if he survives.

Ultimate international spy thriller for fans of Ludlum, le Carré, Cussler, and Flynn.

Critic reviews

“This gritty Jack Steele novel plunges the reader into the chaos of a dangerous world where none can be trusted and nothing, not even family, is as straightforward as it seems. The combination of heart-wrenching poignancy and wry, dark humor make this tense page-turner a compelling read, gripping to the end.” (Sophie Jenkins, author of A Random Act of Kindness and The Forgotten Guide to Happiness)

“If you want to go on a thrill ride and learn some vital history along the way, there’s no better driver than Richard Lyntton. He writes with such a firm grasp of detail that you’ll almost be sure you were there.” (Nathaniel Popkin, award-winning author of The Year of the Return)

“An unforgettable political thriller reminiscent of Ludlum’s best work. Jack Steele becomes embroiled in a top-secret conspiracy to destroy the Bosnian Serbs that spirals out of control, risking a third world war. Hyde Park Deception has heart-stopping twists and turns that will nail you to the edge of your seat. Exceptional!” (William L. Myers Jr., best-selling author of The Philadelphia Legal Series)

Action packed thriller

Hyde Park Deception was another treat after reading Richard Lyntton’s first book- North Korea Deception. I enjoyed scenes in London, Paris, and Sarajevo (an area and war I had little knowledge about until now). The plot is complex but keeps you guessing just like his last book, which I love. You will not say “I know what’s going to happen next” in these books.
Definitely a bonus to have the author narrating in his lovely British accent and perform in about ten different accents!

Do not have to read the First book in the series.

You Do NOT have to read the First book in the series to know what is going on.
Very important to me in picking up a book, when any book in a series can stand on it's own two feet.
The same can be said for the protagonist in the series.
The narrator is also the author of the book, and Richard Lyntton does as good a job as Stephen King in reading his own work.
I also think Richard does voice characterizations better, no apologies to Mr. King.

If I am not mistaken, the book is based on first hand experiences of the author during the Balkans War circa 1990's.

If you weren't around in the 1990's, you may learn a thing or two from this book series.

I think you will enjoy this audiobook.

Intriguing

When a country thinks itself invincible, it’s definitely not always true. The Narrator’s voice helps you understand everything that is happening. You feel as if you’re a part of the disaster. Makes you think about your own country and it’s safety.

Intense

It was a very good decision to have the author as narrator, not only because of his facility with the language(s) but also because he was clearly invested in the story. For listeners who remember hearing/reading about/watching the news of the breakup in the early 90s of the former Yugoslavia and the battles that raged between the Serbians and Croatians this will be a riveting listen.

Not to be Missed!

I usually don’t read and listen to a novel, but this time I did and highly recommend both. The audio version of Hyde Park Deception adds another layer of tension to an already intriguing plot. And the authentic British accent of the narrator author bonds the listener to the main character, Jack Steele, as he searches for the Sarajevo Protocol in an effort to stop a world war.

Exciting new recording of a gripping Thriller!

NARRATION:
The narrator is a virtuoso of languages and dialects, and he uses his repertoire to bring to life the characters in the story. As one listens to the story, one can visualize the scene and the speakers acting in it, which brings the listener into the story. A pleasant speaking voice with a clean, proper English accent makes this an easy book to listen to. The recording quality is excellent and I had no problems with the Audible version that I downloaded and used.

THE BOOK:
Riveting story that took a complex episode in history and made it interesting and understandable to the reader. Using a multi-faceted character, a meticulously plotted storyline, Mr. Lyntton has produced a book that had me reading deep into the night. Just when I thought I understood the alliances of various key players, a shift in action revealed another layer of complexity that had heretofore not been visible.

The writing was so realistic and well researched that I had the sense that the author had lived in the location and perhaps experienced the events (or variations thereof) about which he was writing. Adding the Audible version to your Kindle version will allow one to learn the proper pronunciation of places and people in the Serbian-Croatia area that are not commonly pronounced today. Reading and listening at the same time adds depth to your experience.

I wholeheartedly agree with another reviewer (M. Sutton) who called this book “Another heart-stopping, pulse-pounding tale and plot to keep you guessing!”. A Not-to-be-missed recording!

Intriguing Political Thriller

It happened in Europe … could it happen here?
I couldn’t help thinking about the fragility of democracy in our own country after reading Lyntton’s next in the series Hyde Park Deception. Clever plot around a European country that seemed unified forever but sadly disintegrated into civil war. Not only did I learn about Bosnia and Former Yugoslavia but it was also fun to work out how much of the author’s personal United Nations peacekeeping experience was fact and how much fiction. Audible page turner! Great “listen” – do not miss!

Well done

Loved the historical setup and depth of knowledge involved. Plot development is outstanding. Character development is well thought out and supports the plot excellently. Almost through with the book and can’t wait for the finally. Narration is superb and the inflection is right in. Great job!
