Publisher's summary

Hollywood superstar Max Conroy is A-list all the way; he's one of the few actors who can guarantee box office blockbusters on opening weekend. Max has it all: the devil-may-care charisma, the stunning movie star wife, and a sizable personal fortune that grows along with his legend.

When Max escapes from a rehab center in Arizona, disoriented and longing to return to his blue-collar roots, he becomes the target of a motley group of kidnappers planning to cash in by holding him for ransom. Max not only outsmarts them; he evens the score. Little does he know that a far more dangerous and merciless enemy is coming for him. But this time, he has an ally in the smart and beautiful sheriff’s deputy Tess McCrae.

For years, Max drifted through an easy superstar life, untethered and without purpose. But as he fights for his life, something turns inside him. He’s ready to live again - on his own terms. He will destroy those who’d rather see him die like an icon than live like a man.

Awesome story with a different kind of character

What did you love best about Icon?

The character was simply amazing. Having the character be a big movie star really set him apart from most books. We have an idea of what movies stars are like and having this character interact with people and their assumptions really breaks the mold from a traditional character.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Icon?

I can't say it enough about the character, but Max Conroy was awesome. How he deals with this life altering ordeal as a celebrity gives a fresh take on a simple story. He can't behave life a normal person, because his face is everywhere. So he must handle this situation different then most people.

Have you listened to any of Ryan Johnson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, but I really liked his voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I couldn't stop listening. I wanted to know what happens next.

not the best-not the worst

Would you listen to Icon again? Why?

no, the story was too stereotypic. the twists were not enough to ignore the fact that this is an "easy to see the finish" story

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

a little more suspense, and a couple more twists

Did Ryan Johnson do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I've heard better. the story needed a better narrator to liven up and distinguish better the characters in the story

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes, when the icon does a not so heroic thing in deserting someone who believed in him, and was trying to help him
