Publisher's summary

"I was grateful for having been born human."

There's going to be trouble. Andy Caplet's wife goes away, someone is out to get him, and he loses nearly everything in a storm. Amazing both himself and his unhuman friend, Inspector Hobbes, he heroically rescues flood victims and uncovers something shocking.

Is Andy being set up for blackmail by the apparently charming young woman who attempts to seduce him, or is something even more sinister afoot? Hobbes certainly believes so, and he's getting worried.

This is the fourth in Wilkie Martin's Unhuman series of cozy comedy crime fantasies.

Praise for Wilkie Martin:

"Odd, inventive, and genuinely very funny indeed" - Katie Jarvis, Cotswold Life

"I enjoy how silly everything is." - Jo Ann Hakola, The Book Faerie

they just keep getting better!

Poor Andy Caplet has not lost his touch as he is still a bungling, unlucky and major sad sack.  He’s been married for two years and suddenly finds himself promoted. That is the end of his good luck since his wife has left him, he has been accosted by a beautiful woman, had his photo taken in a compromising position, been shot in the butt, almost been run over and a tree fell on his apartment.  Facing blackmail and nowhere to live he finds himself back at Hobbes and Mrs. Goodfellow’s home.  And then the fun begins!

The Sly people lurk in the background until murder brings them out in the open.  Hilarity ensues as Andy and Hobbes along with Dregs and Billy solve the crime.  Andy really is an accident waiting to happen, but he is fiercely loyal and somehow finds the strength – ok, sorta – to hold his own and be saved!

I love this series of audiobooks; they just keep getting better!    Martin does an excellent job of weaving a fun, hearty tale mixed with a heavy dose of comedy and mystery into one highly entertaining series.  Never a boring minute with Hobbes or Andy around!

The narrator, Tim Campbell, does an entertaining job of narrating the book.  Campbell is Andy Caplet and Hobbes and Mrs. Goodfellow.  Each character has their own voice and personality which Campbell captures and portrays unerringly.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Wonderfully Witty

The writing style really lends itself to audio format. Great characters and a lot of fun. Very well written.

5 star series

One of my all time favs! I've read them all twice waiting for more! Addictive, funny and twisty mysteries featuring an awesome cast of characters, both human and inhuman! Love the writing and the reader brings it to life. I can only dream of the day the next one comes out. If you like Rex Stout, Terry Pratchett and Sherlock Holmes, this series more than satisfies and I hope the author is as prolific.

Andy and Hobbes remain enjoyable

I wish there were a little more about the world Hobbes and Andy occupy. But in spite of this, the series remains enjoyable. I must say that laughing aloud on buses and in doctors waiting room has earned me a few looks. Andy's character is developing. I like the flash backs to his childhood and upbringing. They give a perspective of his low self-esteem and lack of confidence. His is a uphill battle. He's still doing stupid things with the best of intentions. Glad to see he's occasionally takes charge in a few situations. I am glad to see how Hobbes continues to use the least amount of force. I'm remaining very curious about his upbringing and early life. I'd like to see more of Mrs Goodfellow.

A long search for a short medium

I had two laughs - "a long search for a short medium and, "where am i and what hit me".

There are still too many times when the author drags out the self-doubts and stupidity of Andy. I still had to stop listening several times because it was so annoying.

This book is an improvement over #3 but not as well written as book #1.
For the life of me I cannot understand why everyone rates these so high.

The performance is consistently great by Tim Campbell, who deserves a better book to read.

I'm throwing in the towel on this series and won't buy anymore if they come out.

Find narration

Terrific narration but story weaker than previous. But Cambell keeps it exciting. Looking forward to next.
