Madame Guyon
About this listen
Intimacy with Jesus is a verse-by-verse commentary on the Song of Songs by Madame Guyon. She beautifully describes the advance of a soul into god by expounding on this most intimate book of the Bible. Surely our relationship with god goes beyond the church walls, and our journey in god does not stop when we accept Jesus as our savior.
Be drawn deep into the love of Christ as you become lost in his goodness while listening to this book. Allow the words within to release you from modern Christianity and into the arms of the bridegroom. Enjoy.

Story
Madame Jeanne Guyon was one of the most important figures of the 1600s-1700s, not only in France, but throughout Europe. The Reformation had ended nearly 100 years prior, but much of the world continued to believe that the common people could only approach God through priests. Mystics like Madame Guyon, Brother Lawrence, and Miguel de Molinos taught that each individual could come to God through the intimacy of personal prayer. This teaching branded them as heretics.

Story
A Short and Easy Method of Prayer is an excellent manual on prayer for Christians. It teaches the importance of respectful silence in prayer, patience in prayer, collecting oneself inwardly, seeking God in love, and the total abandonment of oneself to God. Madame Guyon aimed at inducing the world to love God and to serve him with comfort and success, in a simple and easy manner. In essence, A Short and Easy Method of Prayer encourages us to take time with God and let the word of the divine enter our hearts, through praying and then waiting on God to speak to our hearts.

Story
Learning how to pray is one of the greatest challenges in a Christian's life. A. W. Tozer pointed out that the Church's greatest curse is unanswered prayer, and that many people do not seem bothered by that. Maybe they don't understand what answered prayer is all about. Tozer outlines this as only he can, describing the kind of prayer God answers and the kind of prayer that leaves Him silent. Ultimately, you have to ask yourself: are my prayers today more powerful and effective than they were a year ago? Our good Father wants them to be!

Story
It has been said that this work by Henry Scougal was "almost universally praised by the leaders of the Great Awakening". It is a piece of literature that has been used by God to influence the souls of men for the glory of Christ. Regardless of the times we live in, the great works of the men of God of old are still applicable today. In an age of lukewarm believers, we need the fire of God to burn us afresh and give us a clear vision of his holy will.

Story
Paradise Lost, along with its companion piece, Paradise Regained, remain the most successful attempts at Greco-Roman style epic poetry in the English language. Remarkably enough, they were written near the end of John Milton's amazing life, a bold testimonial to his mental powers in old age. And, since he had gone completely blind in 1652, 15 years prior to Paradise Lost, he dictated it and all his other works to his daughter.

Story
In The Interior Castle, Carmelite nun, mystic, and patron saint of Spain Teresa of Ávila uses the metaphor of a giant crystal castle to explain her theory of the soul and the various stages it passes through as it progresses towards God. Beginning in the outer rooms, where demons are fought and vices are purged, the soul must reach the inner chambers, where it will enter betrothal and intimate union with God. Prayer is central to the journey, as the soul is guided by its practice and each phase represents a different category of devotion.

Story
Thomas Watson was one of the most famous Puritan preachers in history, and his 17th-century writings are still read across the world today. A highly influential example of Puritan writing, The Great Gain of Godliness is Watson's study of Malachi 3:16-18. British Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon bemoaned the fact that he couldn't find a copy of The Great Gain of Godliness.

Story
The Interior Castle, also titled The Mansions, is a classic work of Christian mysticism by St. Teresa of Ávila. Published in 1588, the text serves as a practical guide for those who wish to achieve mystical union with the divine. Teresa viewed the soul as a “castle made of a single diamond”, which contains seven mansions or dwelling places. The concept of the immanence of God - who dwells in the seventh mansion - was central to her spirituality.

Story
Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle is one of the most celebrated books ever written by a mystic on abiding in union with Christ. Writing in obedience to the requests of two of her superiors, the humble 16th century Spanish sister protests "...for the love of God, let me get on with my spinning and go to choir...like the other sisters...I am not meant for writing; I have neither the health nor the wits for it."

This little treatise, conceived in great simplicity, was not originally intended for publication. It was put together for a few individuals, who were desirous of loving God with all of their heart. These people wished to obtain copies because of the profit they received from it. Their enthusiasm for Madame Guyon's sort work prompted its publication. It was created for those who are unqualified for intense research, but the result continues to bless learned and common Christians alike.

Book is great but narrator is opposite to helpful
The narrator is so unhelpful, makes a simple book seem like a jungle of mess. At first I wondered if it was serious and was upset wondering is this narrator purposefully spoke that way to ruin the book because he didn't like it.
He speaks as if he is reading a novel all throughout and, considering that the book consists of Bible passages and then the authors explanation, he makes no distinction on when she is simply reading a passage and when shes speaking and explaining. It is a mess, better to read the book or find another narrator. I really find this narrator (William Crockett) insulting, confusing and unhelpful.

Narrator is irritating
Madame Guyon is an amazing writer. Her books go so deep into the heart of God. I love to listen to audio books so I thought I would get this one to listen to while I drive. The book its self is great. No offense to the narrator but I’m going to be honest… they did not choose the right person to narrate this book. The voice makes it hard to listen to the book. Turned it off half way through the first chapter. Again, this is nothing against the narrator… it’s just not the right match for this book. Otherwise 100 to Madame Guyon
