About this listen

Irreversible Damage is an exploration of a mystery: Why, in the last decade, has the diagnosis "gender dysphoria", transformed from a vanishingly rare affliction, applying almost exclusively to boys and men, to an epidemic among teenage girls?

Author Abigail Shrier presents shocking statistics and stories from real families to show that America and the West have become fertile ground for a "transgender craze" that has nothing to do with real gender dysphoria and everything to do with our cultural frailty. Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups.

Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

a MUST read for all parents of young women.

we are in the beginning stage of this phenomenon. This book literally reads like she was writing about our daughter personally!!! we are in therapy as a family and with this book we are able to steer the ship with knowledge along with love.

Very enlightening!

I had no idea this had become such an issue with today's young population. I would like to say the main reason for this review is because I saw so many brainwashed fake reviewers posting whom clearly did not read the book. The real transgender population is separate from the current fad of confused and often depressed teenagers looking for a group of friends, which this book discusses.Being a teenager is difficult for everyone, so parents need to be aware of trends and fads. This is an excellent reminder of the dangers of the internet that most people have forgotten exists as well.

I can’t thank you enough

I heard about the book a month before it was released and bought it on presale. My 14year old was asking friends to call her Trent and wearing boys clothes. She shut down and wouldn’t talk to me even after we showed full support for anything she might choose. I bought the audible version and asked her to listen with me. She finally opened up and talked to me. What she described seemed to be just discomfort over puberty, her changing body and feeling out of control. She struggles with anxiety and finds herself most comfortable with boys. Once she listened to the research she agreed to just see how things played out, and if she still felt like she should be a boy she could do that when she was older. This year has been phenomenal for her, she’s gained confidence, started making girl friends and even joined cheer squad. I honestly think she’ll continue life in her biological gender, but if she decides differently when she is older I will feel confident knowing she understands what it will mean for her. Abigail, I felt so alone in this. Thank you for being brave enough to do this. You have no idea how many lives you have touched.

Amazing book!!

Really loved it! I was overseas and bored. When recommended by ben Shapiro. I thought it would be political but it only talks about the Issues with the whole “movement” effecting young girls!!! Really opened my eyes. Lol kinda made all my co-workers listen to it. Definitely recommend.ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK BEFORE YOU COMMENT. If an idea cannot properly take it stand in the marketplace of ideas without collapsing, if they cannot survive without constantly being guarded from outside a tax that is not worth believing in the first place. Learn how to take criticism people.

EYEOPENING

i understand the hate the author gets due to the subject. i dont think it was her intention to harm the trans community. it wasnt about "your not really trans." i never got that feel. understand it can be perceived that way. but you really need to twist the words to perceive it that way.

Seminal Work, Groundbreaking Literary Analysis

A courageous, compassionate look at a vulnerable population in our culture. Important information for meaningful dialogue touching cultural expectations, academia, and mental health. Gives voice to those needing help who have not been heard or seen in the public eye. Very hopeful. Values girls without stereotyping them.

Startling insight into tragedy happening to these young women

I will never forget the statement that the iPhone is at the center of all this self-harm and ideation.

A must read. A very important book for parents with teen girls.

A must read. Very important book for all parents with teen girls. I salute and thank the author for shedding lights on our exact same situation. she described exactly what’s been happening to our child almost to the scripts. I’m thankful that Im at least not in dark. This confirms my thought that something wrongly deeper was going on but wasn’t sure what it was. Now with the information I’m hoping I can warn our child and being senses back to her. Thank you Abigail.
