Publisher's summary

"This book will revolutionize the way you look at your suffering." (Joni Eareckson Tada, Founder, Joni and Friends)

Do we have the wrong map for the Christian life?

Life's inconveniences, disappointments, and trials can leave us confused, cynical, and eventually bitter. But the apostle Paul traces out the path of dying and rising with Jesus — what Paul Miller calls the “J-Curve” — as the normal Christian life.

The J-Curve maps the ups and downs of daily life onto the story of Jesus. It grounds our journeys not in some abstract idea but in union with Christ and his work of love. Understanding our lives in light of the J-Curve roots our hope, centers our love, and tethers our faith to Christ.

Each chapter makes you look at your life and prioritize. No matter what we go through, Jesus knows our suffering. We are hear to make His light shine so others see how much they need Him too.

Miller nails it.

Clear, compelling, and complete. Miller grasps and describes the challenging but true heart and soul of Christianity: dying and rising with Christ and experiencing the counter-intuitive joy of life in Christ.

Great book, Good narrator

While the narrator was ok, I believe the narrator for a loving life and a praying life is significantly more enjoyable to listen to.
The book overall however, was excellent! While I still perhaps prefer a loving life, a praying life, and love walked among us, this book - the J curve - definitely met the writing standards that I’ve come to deeply cherish from Paul Miller.
His drawing from personal experience and trials and then weaving those experiences to back up what he proposes in his books, creates a certain “wooing element” in his books.
