Publisher's summary

Christmas Eve, 1814. Jane Austen has been invited to spend the holiday with family and friends at the Vyne, the gorgeous ancestral home of the wealthy and politically prominent Chute family. As the year fades and friends begin to gather beneath the mistletoe for the twelve days of Christmas festivities, Jane and her circle are in a celebratory mood: Mansfield Parkis selling nicely; Napoleon has been banished to Elba; British forces have seized Washington, DC; and on Christmas Eve, John Quincy Adams signs the Treaty of Ghent, which will end a war nobody in England really wanted.

Jane, however, discovers holiday cheer is fleeting. One of the Yuletide gathering dies in a tragic accident whose circumstances Jane immediately views with suspicion. If the accident was in fact murder, the killer is one of Jane's fellow snowbound guests. With clues scattered amid cleverly crafted charades, dark secrets coming to light during parlor games, and old friendships returning to haunt the Christmas parties, whom can Jane trust to help her discover the truth and stop the killer from striking again?

Stephanie Barron is a treasure

There are very few series that I love as much and have reread as often as Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen Mysteries. Ms Barron beautifully captures Austen's world and the people who inhabited it. Plus they're just cracking good mystery stories.

An enjoyable book.

I think Jane Austin herself would have heartily approved if this authors work. I think I would enjoy reading more by this author.

Truly Austen-esque

Stephanie Barron's creation is entertaining and delightful! Kate Reading brought this Austen-esque ensemble to life and literally transported me to the early 19th century!

Period Correct and well written

I had to keep reminding my self this was not written by Jane herself. Ms. Barron writes like the time period of Jane Austen and she does a better job than the 100 or so other historical fiction novels have I read (and listened to).

MILD PLOT SPOILER ALERT

These is no reason why the person who murdered the female could not have been charged and convicted based on the accused’s public admission against the interest in front of numerous witnesses. I considered that a major and unsatisfactory plot hole and I’m disappointed “justice was not served” (fictionally speaking). That said the book is still 5 stars.

Nice listen!

Really enjoyed listening to this murder mystery... I like that fact that it’s written in Austen’s style... the story was a bit slow I feel but I guess that was the whole point

Another excellent Jane Austen mystery!

Would you consider the audio edition of Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas to be better than the print version?

Not necessarily. I love to read but don't always have the time. That is why I love my Audible books!

What other book might you compare Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas to and why?

I am a Jane Austen fan and a Stephanie Barron fan. I have all but two of Stephanie's Jane Austen mysteries in print form so my comparison would be to those other stories.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have. Kate Reading can bring a story and the characters to life like no one else!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Brilliant

Enjoyed the period language, charming descriptions, and delightful Christmas traditions! The mystery was quite the conundrum! It kept my interest throughout. The performance of Kate Reading dazzled!

Jane Austen and the 12 days of Christmas

I have read numerous Jane Austen genre books and although some have come close to her style, none have been this accurate. Stephanie Barron has done a fantastic and admirable job with this Jane Austen Mystery Series in both historic authenticity and integrity to the original Jane Austen herself. This is an entertaining book that is reminiscent of the novels of the main character with a grand mystery to solve for further enjoyment..
