Publisher's summary

You’ve heard of Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. But have you heard of Amy Archer-Gilligan? Or Belle Gunness? Or Nannie Doss?

Women have committed some of the most disturbing serial killings ever seen in the United States. Yet scientific inquiry, criminal profiling, and public interest have focused more on their better-known male counterparts. As a result, female serial killers have been misunderstood, overlooked, and underestimated.

In this riveting account, Dr. Marissa A. Harrison draws on original scientific research, various psychological perspectives, and richly detailed case studies to illuminate the stark differences between female and male serial killers’ backgrounds, motives, and crimes. She also emphasizes the countless victims of this grisly phenomenon to capture the complexity and tragedy of serial murder.

Meticulously weaving data-based evidence and insight with intimate storytelling, Just As Deadly reveals how and why these women murder—and why they often get away with it.

First of its kind !

This book is the largest qualitative and quantified study of FSKs, female serial killers, to ever have been done. A fascinating and informative book highlighting the unique gendered ways that FSKs are different from male serial killers.

an interesting book

if you're looking for gory details... this is not your book. I found the book very interesting. I'm also surprised that there isn't a lot of info on the female serial killer.

Good book about the subjet

But I had to buy the book because the performence was confusing, I had to stop and figure out what they were talking about.

The cases are good but I had hoped for some more in-depth to the cases.

Was expecting more

the author had some compelling research however, almost half the cases she presented were of male serial killers. I would have liked to have heard more about how psychopathy presents in women and the tools used to measure it (which were developed in men's prisons).

The psychological makeup of the FSK.

This book I think it’s too simplistic. I think FSK or MSK don’t necessarily be included it depends how they themselves feel. I think there are some points I agree with like most MSK deal with sexual motives and FSK work as caregivers with poisons available to them.
