About this listen
Crimson, the bloodthirsty, sadistic King of Hearts, is a villain. Or at least he’s supposed to be. That’s just how things work in Wonderland, a strange, fanciful place filled with heroes and villains who always seem to be at odds.
Crim is in a very dark place after the hero Alister Kingsley wins the Wonderland joust and marries Madeline Hatter. He should have known better than to hope for true love since villains don’t get "happy endings".
But there’s something fishy afoot. Even though Crim loves Madeline, he can’t stop thinking about his Cheshire Cat slave, Katrina, who remains trapped in an enchanted sleep. Only true love’s kiss can break a sleeping curse, and Crim has tried that already. Don’t get him wrong. He doesn’t love Katrina. He just misses her delicious raspberry tarts terribly and will stop at nothing until she can bake them for him again.
Like sharks smelling blood in the water, Crim’s enemies make their move when the King of Hearts shows a moment of weakness caused by his recent defeat at Alister’s hands and his inability to break Katrina’s curse. The Queen of Hearts and Crim’s birthmother, Cordelia, has two powerful allies in her arsenal: the Other Artist, Alice, and the Sorcerer Maleficent.
Crim later discovers that the saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is true when the Cheshire Cat People decide to join Crim in retaking the Red Kingdom from the clutches of Alice’s army, which is made up of vicious Dark Fairies and human-sized insects.
Can a villain become the hero Wonderland needs before it’s too late, or will Wonderland be plunged into an eternal darkness forever?

Asha's life is no fairytale, by any stretch of the imagination. There was no kind, generous father to care for and protect her from the Vegas that exists beyond the glitz and glamour of The Strip. No wise, doting mother to look over and guide her, passing down essential lessons and leading her to the right path. And certainly, no Prince Charming just around the corner, ready to rescue her from working late nights to cover steadily mounting bills.

Imagination plus
This is not the type of book that I read, but this author has such a creative imagination. Her descriptions of characters and what they are going through are so vivid that the reader in drawn into this story. Crimson is definitely bad news but is he really? Things are constantly changing in this fantasy world.
The narrator did an excellent job of storytelling and allowing the reader to visualize this ever changing story. I received this Audible book in exchange for an honest review.

FYI. This book is Part 2 to "Alister in Wonderland "
If you like the t.v. Series "Once upon a time" adult fairtales you'll love this series.
It doesn't stick to one Fairytale line, it mixs different tales together.
Remember it's Genderbent so its King of Hearts instead of Queen of Hearts. Its kind of cool.
Very enjoyable listen.
And L.A. Johnson does a great job bring the story to life.

Wonderful Continuation
After reading Alister in Wonderland, I became fascinated with this storyline. The fantasy type stories aren’t really my “thing” but it truly is a great love story.
If you think you know these stories, think again. I love the re-imagined story so much I listened to this in one day, which isn’t like me. The back stories of characters you heard about growing up can be heartbreaking sometimes but I’ve loved the journey and the endings so far. Thank you for a great story!

Wow! Absolutely amazing!
This is not your children's fairy tale. If you loved Alister in Wonderland, which I recommend, you'll love King of Hearts. This is Crimson's story. You get to see The King of Hearts in an entirely new way. And I must say my opinion of Crim changed by the end. This is a wonderful fast paced story that had me engaged to the very end and I recommend it.
Narrator L.A. Johnson does a fabulous job and I look forward to listening to him again.
