Publisher's summary

This Audiobook will take you through the basics of French with Basic Bootcamp, All About, and Pronunciation lessons.

The five Basic Bootcamp lessons each center on a practical, real-life conversation. At the beginning of the lesson, we'll introduce the background of the conversation. Then, you'll hear the conversation two times: one time at natural native speed, and one time with English translation. After the conversation, you'll learn carefully selected vocabulary and key grammar concepts. Next, you'll hear the conversation one time at natural native speed. Finally, practice what you have learned with the review track. In the review track, a native speaker will say a word or phrase from the dialogue, wait three seconds, and then give you the English translation. Say the word aloud during the pause. Halfway through the review track, the order will be reversed. The English translation will be provided first, followed by a three-second pause, and then the word or phrase from the dialogue. Repeat the words and phrases you hear in the review track aloud to practice pronunciation and reinforce what you have learned.

In the fifteen All About lessons, you’ll learn all about French and France. Our native teachers and language experts will explain everything you need to know to get started in French, including how to understand the writing system, grammar, pronunciation, cultural background, tradition, society, and more -- all in a fun and educational format!

The five Pronunciation lessons take you step-by-step through the most basic skill in any language: how to pronounce words and sentences like a native speaker. You’ll go from basic concepts to advanced tips and will soon sound like you’ve been speaking French your entire life.

Well, A Disappointment

Guess I should have followed the advice of others who were NOT pleased with this supposed "jump-start" to speaking French.

I didn't need a lot of theory/cultural stuff.

I give it 3 stars because it DID contain some fascinating material and it MIGHT be just the language tool for some people.

I was only trying to find something simple that I could listen to during my work commute, practice with and become functionally knowledgeable about basic French phrases.

This audiobook wasn't it.

A date?

I wasn't sure if this was a date or someone teaching an English class. It was a lot of a guy talking English and less French language.

Not enough French language

I had purchased an Italian Language Introduction book produced by the same company a couple of years ago that had 25 language lessons, and a few explanations of some cultural aspects important in communicating. I was expecting the same with this book, but I found that many of the lessons are about French culture, with little, if any, French language. I enjoyed the format of this book - a casual conversation between a native French speaker and an American French speaker - and I found the cultural lessons interesting, but it didn't have the amount of language instruction that I wanted/needed. This book would be better for someone who was interested in French culture with some very basic understanding of how the French language works and a few words/phrases that they could actually use.

Unbearable commentary

This is useful as a free resource for refreshing your French or learning beginner topics, however the extra commentary is nearly unbearable at times. The hosts are constantly flirting with each other, the American guy comes off as mildly ignorant/xenophobic from a linguistic perspective, and there’s really just too much commentary. Please stop flirting and just teach us french!!

Really fun and helpful instructors

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It was very helpful for me to brush up on my French and they offer on online guide as well. But it is the two instructors that make this an awesome experience overall. They combine a sense of instruction, humor, friendship beautifully in their presentation. I like Eric Lynch's performance--he is funny, helpful, and encourages learning; but I find Virginies Maries totally captivating. Laugh if you will, but she has such a lovely sexy French accent and voice! Seriously: this is the type of French woman we men all fell in love with over the years, and it just makes the whole experience that much more fun, entertaining, and instructive. Check it out!

Unexpected

I appreciated the dialogue about French culture, language structure and France in general. Bravo! The review word counter says one word remaining, for a total of fifteen maximum. Trying to submit your review, it says you need at least twenty words minmum and you should type useless words to get to twenty words.
